The Director of Secondary School Placement is responsible for guiding families and Upper School students in all aspects of the process of matriculating to secondary school. This person works with families and students to identify the school(s) that are the right fit for each student. The Director of Placement supports students and families as they apply to, interview at, and receive decisions from secondary schools. The Director of Secondary School Placement serves as a member of the administrative team and works closely with the Headmaster, Admissions Office, administration, faculty, and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Counsels and assists parents and students in all aspects of the secondary school placement process, from initial school exploration to application submission to matriculation.
Visit, develop an in-depth understanding of, and establish positive relationships with a continuum of schools that are appropriate placements for the range of students graduating from Rumsey Hall.
Develops and maintains strong relationships with boarding schools across the U.S. and abroad.
Orchestrate strategic individual/secondary school Admissions representatives travel and group visits.
Develop strong professional relationships with educational consultants to partner in the appropriate selection of placement options.
Develop and maintain a database of schools where students matriculate
Meet with families who are considering the next educational placement for their children and provide advice and counsel on appropriate placements for these students.
Oversees all aspects of the application process including student essays, teacher recommendations, student preparation for interviews, parent follow-up after school visits, transcript submissions, etc.
Meets and regularly communicates with 8th and 9th-grade students and parents each year to provide an overview of the application process.
Generates a monthly secondary school placement newsletter
Provides information to other current families as needed.
Coordinates and oversees SSAT testing, registration, and administration on site. Manages on-campus test preparation options for current students.
Participates in EMA, TABS, and Junior Boarding Schools Placement Conferences.
Works with Advancement Office to cultivate relationships.
Work with the Admission Office as needed, which may include student interviewing and admission travel as well as communication with prospective families about the secondary school process.
Coaching and/or teaching responsibilities as needed.
B.A. degree required; a minimum of 7-10 years related experience in primary/secondary education
Passion for working with students from diverse backgrounds as an integral part of a school community
Detail-oriented with exceptional interpersonal, communication, organizational, and project management skills
Ability to speak before large groups or audiences
Coaching and/or residential life responsibilities as needed
Regular/frequent travel required
Occasional evening and weekend work is expected
