The Director of Grants and Special Projects is responsible for the overall centralization of external funding initiatives which align with the college's mission and vision. The Director is responsible for centralizing SCC's grant strategy and management for all college departments to assist in decreased administrative costs and improved alignment, institutionalization and centralization of innovative programs to support the college's strategic priorities. The Director is responsible for discovering internal potential and existing initiatives, proactively identifying federal, state, and regional grants to meet the financial and operational needs of the college. The Director establishes and maintains relationships with funders, policy makers and creates partnerships to assist the college in advancing its missions with opportunities for implementing innovative projects.
The Director establishes policies, procedures, and processes for grant submissions; oversees college wide individual and consortia grant activity including but not limited to: strategic research, building proposal development teams, securing consortium partners, managing writing teams, critiquing proposals, negotiating awards, facilitating program design and implementation, contracting, compliance, reporting, developing evaluation measures, sustainability planning, and other administrative functions. The position provides leadership and direction for both the pre-award and post-award activity for programs funded by federal, state, regional, and private funds and manages the financial administration of grants including oversite and management of college grant budgets, which average over $5M per year.
The Director oversees and manages program staff to ensure they accomplish their approved program deliverables and that the college meets compliance and reporting requirements. In addition, the Director of Grants and Special Projects is responsible for all sub-contracts with vendors and partners.
Master's degree or an equivalent combination of business and/or non-profit experience
A minimum of five years of demonstrated progressive supervisory management responsibility working with all business processes including: human resource management, strategic planning and implementation, financial management, and project management.
A minimum of five years' experience managing a grant portfolio including working with a broad spectrum of grant types and grant agencies.
Demonstrated project management skills with experience managing and supervising multiple simultaneous administrative projects.
Fiscal management experience managing multi-million dollar budgets; including contract administration, developing and monitoring budgets and financial reporting.
Proficiency in written and oral communications, including public speaking.
Commitment to diversity as well as a demonstrated ability to work successfully with persons of diverse backgrounds.
5 years' experience in grants management; preferably oversight of grants including multiple organizations
5+ years of management experience; preferably management of personnel within a collective bargaining environment,
5+ years fiscal management of a multi-million dollar annual budget
Knowledge of program coordination, curriculum design, instructional strategies, course delivery, and assessment.
Experience with electronic grants management systems including financial management software.
Experience managing U.S. Department of Labor grants.
Computer software skills sufficient to collect, query, and analyze data and prepare charts, reports and presentations.
