The National Institute of Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Education (NIAMRRE) hosted by Iowa State University is currently accepting applications for an Associate Director of External Relations. NIAMRRE (niamrre.org) is a member organization that drives cross-sector engagement and coordinated action to combat the global threat of Antimicrobial Resistance across humans, animals, and the environment. In short, we connect people, resources, and ideas to accelerate and synergize efforts to combat antibiotic resistance.
The Associate Director of External Relations position will be responsible for serving as a subject matter expert in antimicrobial resistance and work closely with the Executive Director to represent the external facing efforts of NIAMRRE.Â This includes interacting with academic, professional and industry stakeholders, and building strong and sustained relationships with these partners and sponsors of NIAMRRE.Â The successful candidate will advise and assist the Executive Director in strategic implementation of the NIAMRRE Leadership Operations Center (LOC). Responsibilities of the position include actively contributing to the oversight and management of the Institute, as well as providing counsel to the Director regarding key financial, organizational, and programmatic decisions, along with coordination of project activities and objectives across multiple institutions and other stakeholder groups.
The successful candidate will be a leader and an effective team builder and have the capacity to help others work together to achieve shared goals. In order to be successful in this role, the candidate will possess demonstrated project management experience, excellent written and oral communication, strong problem solving skills, and the ability to synthesize and integrate diverse ideas and perspectives. This position requires that the candidate have the ability to travel out-of-state to attend and present at conferences, meet with collaborators, and meet with funding agencies, industry partners, and pharmaceutical companies. Lastly, this position is expected to communicate with diverse audiences about highly technical information, therefore the successful candidate will possess excellent technical writing skills. In addition, the candidate needs to be able to simplify complex issues and communicate those to lay audiences.
The University is in the process of implementing a new classification and compensation structure. The impending change is expected to be completed by Fall 2020. Any P&S employee hired through this posting may be assigned a new title and associated pay grade upon the employment start date (and after the initial offer), commensurate with qualifications required for the position. The duties and responsibilities of the posted position, in addition to compensation offered, will not be affected by this process.
