Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University invites applications for a clinical-track faculty position in veterinary ophthalmology. Anticipated percentage time allocations for this position are 75% clinical service/teaching and 25% academic time. Rank and salary will be commensurate with training and experience; Cummings School also has a progressive external consulting policy allowing for salary supplementation.
The successful candidate will join two other ophthalmologists, two residents, and a team of dedicated technicians on the ophthalmology service, which operates within the Foster Hospital for Small Animals and also serves the Hospital for Large Animals and the Wildlife Clinic. Both hospitals are located in North Grafton, MA and are part of Cummings Veterinary Medical Center, which serves the New England region and has a high and varied caseload.
The ophthalmology service is supported by outstanding anesthesia, critical care, diagnostic imaging, and pathology services. Available state-of-the-art equipment includes a table mounted Topcon slit lamp with digital photography capabilities, fundic camera, electroretinography unit, service-dedicated ultrasound with 12-, 20-, 35- and 50-MHz probes, two Zeiss operating microscopes, Bausch & Lomb Stellaris phacoemulsification unit, two cryo units (N02 and liquid-N), diode laser with indirect headset, and Peschke Velvet crosslinking system.
Clinical responsibilities include supervision of the service and support of residents on emergency duty. Enthusiasm for teaching is a requirement for this position. Responsibilities include clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students, participation in preclinical labs, and instruction of residents and interns in all aspects of ophthalmology, primary case management, and oversight of patients. Requirements include a DVM degree or its equivalent and completion of an American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) residency. Preference will be given to individuals who are already ACVO board certified, although we welcome applications from those in the final stages of residency training.
