The “Creative Digital Media Specialist” resides within the NUQ Media Innovation Lab (MIL) and is under the supervision of Academic Affairs in order to advance faculty and student research in each of the three undergraduate program areas; to support department initiatives, including digital innovations for NUQ’s growing Executive and Master’s Education programs; and to produce custom media projects and digital learning initiatives. A key justification of this position is that it will help support growth in the digital, online and interactive media that contribute NUQ’s role in promoting the information society goals of Qatar 2030. Being able to lead as well as support others in technological development and experimentation is a major component of this position, as are digital storytelling skills and attention to user experience. Key to this position are estimating project costs and expenses; and directing, editing and delivering finished multi-media projects. Based in the MIL, this position should foster continual growth and improvement within NUQ programs, and connection to the home campus. This position also supervises student specialists and supports their development and contributions to the team.
The Creative Digital Media Specialist will report to the director of the Journalism and Strategic Communications program, which is responsible for organizing a MIL Steering Group comprised of the directors of all four NUQ programs and the Senior Associate Dean.
Work in collaboration with students, faculty and staff to produce a variety of digital tools for teaching, research and publishing. This position includes producing, directing and planning all aspects of production as needed, as well as coordinating with staff, departments, and activities.
Develop the NUQ Media Innovation Lab as a hub for digital learning, educational services, and research productivity
Coordinate pre-production planning activities, including advising the client and guiding concept development when appropriate.
Coordinate on digital innovation with the Medill Knight Lab and the Garage at the home campus to improve connectivity and interaction between Doha and Evanston.
Responsible for reviewing projects in process, instructing and overseeing editors, testing and ensuring product quality on a per project basis.
Coordinate projects with other communications teams, departments and event production. This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, attentiveness to detail, and an active awareness of the larger organizational goals to which the MIL contributes.
Assist with the schedules and budgets for assigned projects to ensure that project goals, milestones and deliverables are achieved and tracked.
Supervise temporary employees, contractors, student temporary workers and other tasks as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in audio, video, media technology, or comparable field, with emphasis on computerized interactive technology, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Three to five years of experience in exhibition and/or event style video productions systems, media workflow, compression/video streaming technology, or computer-based video production, effects, and post-production.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Demonstrated knowledge of media production software in both Macintosh and Windows environments (Adobe Creative Suite), and Christie (Coolux) Pandoras Box experience;
Creative eye with interest in audience engagement with digital media, informal learning spaces, and desire to create new exhibition environments
Knowledge of DVB/Mpeg standards;
Strong analytical skills;
Time management/ organizational skills
High level of technical knowledge (e.g. digital production, artifact digitization processes and protocols, technology and visitor interaction)
Experience in a university, and working with faculty and students
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Fluently bilingual (Arabic or French and English)
Work/living experience in Qatar or other Gulf State
Knowledge of journalism, media and communications in the Gulf region
