The Design Unit within the Division of University Relations/Enrollment Management at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Graphic Designer (Multimedia Specialist). Under the direction of the Art Director, Director of Design and Executive Creative Director, this position executes integrated marketing and communication strategies from concept to completion. This position coordinates, designs and produces high-quality print and electronic promotional materials in congruence with marketing research. Designed communications should advance, project and protect the reputation and image of West Virginia University by employing the best cross-media graphics, techniques and standards.
The Division of University Relations and Enrollment Management tells the University's stories using a wide range of digital and print media while working in cross-disciplinary, collaborative project teams of in-house video producers, writers, photographers, designers, social and web developers. The selected candidate will create designs for award-winning print publications, video, motion graphics and animation, environmental graphics, web, social media and more. Under the direction of the Art Director and Director of Design, University Relation's Creative Director and the Vice President for University Relations and Enrollment Management, this position executes integrated marketing communications visual strategy from concept through execution. Designed communications should advance, project and protect the reputation and image of West Virginia University by employing the best cross media graphics and design techniques, representations and standards.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Generate ideas and visual strategies in collaboration with copywriters and marketing team.
Execute those strategies through original design work.
Art direction; including but not limited to directing photoshoots, compiling design assets and working with copywriters
Other duties as assigned.
Work with Operations team and Marketing team to ensure tasks and deadlines are met, as outlined.
Work with vendors when necessary to complete a job. This includes building specs for print jobs, choosing paper/materials, preflighting documents for printing process.
Work with Operations and Marketing teams to identify and record client needs, budgets, concepts, expectations.
Bachelor's degree in graphic design or other related field required.
Two (2) years of experience in design, photography, communications or related field.
Oversee design projects, from conception to delivery
Design original pieces, including illustrations, infographics and motion graphics
Refine images, fonts and layouts using graphic design software
Generate ideas to present concepts and to advertise products/services
Increase user friendliness in digital products
Maintain WVU brand consistency throughout all our marketing projects
Liaise with marketing, communications, copywriting, photography, video and design teams to ensure deadlines are met
Stay up-to-date with industry developments and tools
Photography skill strongly preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of advertising, product promotion and services as they relate to a University environment
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud software
Oral and written communication skills as they relate to communicating and presenting concepts.
