The George Mason University Facilities Department is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual for an Interior Designer and Relocation Coordinator position. Under the direction of the Manager, Interior Designer, this position will assist in developing interior design schemes that incorporate optimum space utilization—meeting code, building, and department functional needs in an aesthetically pleasing and cost-effective manner. An important part of this position is also coordination of move management, including but not limited to coordination of moves with groups such as: facilities project management, space management, Information Technology Services, key control, physical security, Parking, mail services, Print Services and Facilities Management. This position involves contact with architects, engineers, planners, electricians, building contractors, administrators, departmental officials, and vendors on purchasing and design problems, procurement of goods, installation of furnishings, and move management services.
Specific Interior Design work tasks include duties such as:
Assistance in determining the end user's needs;
Formulating a design plan and budget;
Specifying materials, finishes and furnishings;
Developing a timeline for the projects, and coordinating contractor schedules to ensure timely completion.
Bachelor's degree in interior design, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
AutoCAD experience with Commercial Interiors;
Demonstrated direct experience with Commercial Interior Design;
Direct experience with educational interior design, furniture coordination, and move management.
Introductory-level knowledge of institutional design theory and practices;
General knowledge of the ability to apply state purchasing and accounting policy and principles;
Experience using furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFandE) and 2020 CAP Studio;
Introductory-level knowledge of related building and state laws and regulations, health, safety and fire codes;
Introductory-level knowledge of ADA regulations;
Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with architects, engineers and building contractors to ensure designs are safe and meet construction requirements;
Ability to manage parts of projects involving own work under supervision;
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor manufacturers, departmental representatives and other customers/ clients regarding purchasing, design, procurement of goods, and installation of furnishings;
Ability to assist with move coordination when necessary.
