The Student Intern, under general supervision, will assist the Office of Research, Innovation, and Sponsored Programs (ORISP) with mechanical engineering operations and research.
Investigate equipment and piping in mechanical rooms throughout the agencies' campus
Identify equipment, take photographs, find model numbers, take measurements, and sketch the relationship of that equipment with other equipment and piping
Research digital and physical documents to find specific information on each piece of equipment
Use accepted equations and practice to determine if equipment is properly sized and capable of working safely with existing system
Take sketches and enter them into AutoCAD for a record of existing conditions
Collect information and present in a coherent report for PSMO review
Other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
No prior experience necessary
For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least three (3) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Must be Majoring in Mechanical Engineering
Must demonstrate working knowledge of MS Word and Excel in a Windows environment, PDF editor, and AutoCAD.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must know basics of heat transfer, physics, and thermodynamics
Desire to excel and learn
Federally funded grant requirement: Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
Must be a current Prairie View A&M University Student
Must possess a valid drivers license
Must have reliable transportation to and from work site
Must be capable of climbing ladders and steps
Able to lift up to 50 pounds
Must be comfortable with working on roofs, confined spaces, and hot/cold/dirty environments while maintaining safety requirements.
