As the Vice President of Commercial Operations, he/she will ensure activities/resources and capabilities are aligned to coordinate and support/fuel the high growth rate forecasted in the next few years. Therefore, the Vice President of Commercial Operations is a strategically important role for the company, and one in which the appointed Executive will have responsibility for all activities related to successfully supporting the company's sales, marketing, training, sales operations and market analytics/insights strategies across all lines of the Otsuka business, including Avanir (Sales training and Project office) and provide guidance and support where needed globally. This person will lead a team of ~40 FTEs, and have responsibilities including but not limited to:
Work closely with the CCO and the Commercial Leadership team to ensure the vision and mission of the commercial organization can be operationally executed and is in line with the overall company goals and market needs.
Lead the development/evolution of Commercial capabilities to support aggressive growth expectations across the 3 Business Units.
Lead the commercial strategy and budget planning process, ensure the commercial organization has relevant information that can be utilized and extrapolated to make sound commercial decisions.
Ensure commercial organization is future ready and able to lead industry within Commercial Ops function, validating this with external benchmarking.
Provide direct leadership and management of the following groups;
Sales Training, Marketing and Sales Operations, Commercial Project Management Office, Marketing Insights & Competitive Intelligence plus Business Development Analytics & Insights
Effectively manage multi million dollar budget to ensure efficient investment aligned with business needs.
Lead the team in salesforce effectiveness and operations to ensure the optimal use of resources is made and strategic initiatives are implemented.
Core member of the following Otsuka groups;
Senior Commercial Leadership Team (SCLT, CCO direct reports), Commercial Leadership Team (CLT) and Technology and Business Evolution Committee (TBEC)
Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and code of business conduct.
Play a key leadership role in preparation for the launch of new drugs and indications across the portfolio.
Create synergies wherever possible to drive cost savings, operational efficiency, and share best practice(s).
Ensure competitive information gathering, analysis and interpretation to influence business outcomes.
Ensure a best-in-class commercial operations function in full support of the Sales and Marketing teams, as well as manage the day-to-day operations within Marketing.
YEAR ONE CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS
This role which will entail successfully leading resources from both Otsuka and Avanir to ensure a highly effective Commercial Operations function. The appointed candidate will be considered successful in the first 12 months by achieving the following:
Identify and successfully develop/implement capabilities across the business effectively supporting continued revenue growth and ensuring successful launches of new indications and, or products.
Assess the organization's capabilities and determine organizational capability and resources development/evolution to meet the needs of the business.
Play a key role in determining and successfully executing the "go-to-market" strategy for multiple potential launches within the therapeutics areas of Neuroscience and Nephrology.
Ensure a highly engaged, high performing Commercial Ops team that is recognized as being a source of high potential commercial talent. This will include establishing a vision for the Commercial Ops function that is fully aligned with other internal functions and then delivering on this vision.
Build credibility and trusting relationships with all Commercial peers and senior executives in both North America and Japan.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
Otsuka Pharmaceuticals is seeking an experienced Commercial Executive in this operations leadership role who is truly passionate about the function. The successful candidate must possess sophisticated and proven Commercial leadership experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry and have led commercial functions in their career. Have worked with alliance partners.
Creative problem solver, able to address current market trends and anticipate issues in the various therapeutic areas.
Strong track record of working with R&D to plan and forecast future products coming to market and implement a plan to ensure their commercial success.
Have scope for personal growth and succession planning.
Able to deal with a high degree of ambiguity and chart a path forward to deliver results.
BA/BS is required. An advanced degree is preferred.
