For nearly 50 years, the Continuing Studies Program at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) in Grand Rapids, Michigan has offered non-credit art and design related courses for youth, adults, and professionals in the community and custom contract training. KCAD Continuing Studies Instructors have the knowledge and real-world experience that will improve their students’ skills and the way their students think about their own creative potential.
Teaching assignments include subject areas such as: drawing, painting, design thinking, robotics, business coaching, digital applications, web design and coding, fashion, interiors, branding, photography, sculpture, metals/jewelry, ceramics, mixed media, comic drawing, and much more. The teaching assignments are part-time, temporary, and taught on KCAD’s campus in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Continuing Studies Program does have an interest in expanding online course offerings in the future. Applicants with online course development skills and that have a proposal for an online course should include this information in the course proposal attachment described in Optional Documents.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in area of emphasis. K-12 teaching certification or advanced degree in studio art (for youth or adult art programs). Prior experience teaching youth (for youth programs).
Participate in program meetings. Propose or revise course outlines, descriptions, and supply lists as needed. Teach appropriate courses/training as assigned. Assess and evaluate student learning. Respond to requests from the Continuing Studies Office in a timely manner. Maintain awareness of registrations for upcoming courses by checking Xenegrade website. Create new course proposals as needed. Represent the program in a positive manner to Continuing Studies students. Recruit and retain future Continuing Studies students. Contribute to the KCAD’s continuous improvement. Maintain effective communication with Continuing Studies Office, students and/or parents. Follow KCAD’s policies in regards to minors on campus and emergency procedures. Work collaboratively with KCAD faculty and staff as needed. Communicate with Continuing Studies Office regarding upcoming courses. Maintain KCAD’s reputation in the community.
