In collaboration with UW Medicine IT Services (‘ITS’) and under the general guidance of the Analytics Data Operations (DataOps) Manager, the primary focus of the Business Intelligence (BI) Applications Administrator (‘BI Apps Admin’) position is to play a senior role in the application administration, development and maintenance of interfaces between various source systems, support systems, and the Analytics group.
Key applications are Change Healthcare’s Data Warehouse (Horizon Performance Manager) and BI (Horizon Business Intelligence) tools and various custom-developed web-based applications. Position will research, design, develop, administer, test and maintain information systems of a highly complex nature for UW Medicine.
ITS is a growing shared services department that implements, deploys and manages highly complex clinical, business, and system applications to meet and exceed key IT initiatives that support UW Medicine entities. Additional applications and systems are supported through UW Medicine research affiliations such as the Fred Hutchinson’s Cancer Research Center, NIH and other grants, contracts, clinical affiliations and other School of Medicine activities; as well as medical training programs with other institutions. Additionally, UW Medicine operates in a highly complex business and technical environment consisting of multiple institutions and a highly diverse suite of applications.
The Analytics Consulting group has a dual report into ITS and SOM; provides operational oversight for the major analytics platforms and tools at UW Medicine; and is a key support function as UW Medicine transitions towards value based health care. The BI Analyst collaborates effectively with colleagues and other departments at HMC, UWMC-Montlake, UWMC-NW, VMC, UWNC, UWP, SOM, and ITS, as well as with other Project Managers, Technology Managers, and Directors.
The Analytics DataOps Team is responsible for the end to end platforms supporting the data solutions we provide for enterprise data warehouse, reporting, visualization and decision support. The platforms include Epic Cogito, Microsoft SQL Server, Caradigm Intelligence Platform, Change Healthcare financial support and reporting tools, BOE, and Tableau, with ongoing efforts to consolidate and simplify this stack.
These systems encompass the clinical, financial and administrative aspects of medical center operations. Activities span Client-Server and PC platforms, utilizing a variety of software tools. Focus is on providing interfaces that result in timely, high quality data, for administrative and financial retrospective analysis that supports the Medical Centers’ mission and operational goals. The incumbent will prepare and maintain program design and documentation; perform project analysis; execute projects; and coordinate projects among multiple departments/clients.
UW Medicine relies on enterprise wide technological solutions and electronic information to enable the quickest and most reliable health care for its customers. These systems must be available on a 24x7 basis in order to allow physicians and nursing staff access to vital patient information. If the systems are not available the potential for lost revenue and patient life is very real. Not only is the availability of the information but also the security of the information of the highest priority.
Overall, data analytics is a strategic function within UW Medicine with a large set of growing demands. The ability to deliver improved analytics, faster, and at a lower cost is essential to both tactical and strategic success of UW Medicine overall. This role provides crucial support to UW Medicine and its partners for all of the major initiatives that require operational reporting, visualization or dashboards to deliver information to all levels of the organization and affect change. The analytics solutions developed by this role are used to support clinical, operational, and financial reporting and analysis and are key to the success of the organization as a whole.
