Fitness Attendant (Part-time/temporary) - Georgetown University's Yates Field House
The Fitness Attendant maintains a safe, clean, and fun exercise environment for students and members and performs other duties as assigned. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Make all participants feel comfortable in the fitness facility environment.
Talk to participants as you rotate through the room.
Answer questions. If you are unsure of the answer, find out. Take the participant's name and contact information if you cannot get an answer at that moment.
Business Cards are provided at the desk and in the Main Office if a member wishes to speak to the Director of Fitness & Wellness.
Enforce fitness floor policies.
Know the policies and politely correct violations.
Educate participants on cardio machine time limits.
Quickly wipe down cardio machines when not in use. Remind participants to do this.
Make sure weights are re-racked and in their proper space at all times. Tell participants to re-rack weights.
Wipe down benches as needed.
Watch for improper usage of weight equipment such as dropping, throwing, or slamming weights, dumbbells, weight stacks and be on the lookout for unsafe lifts, etc.
In the event that the Director of Fitness & Wellness is not available, see a Building Manager if there is a major infraction.
Instruct participants on proper equipment usage.
Be 100% confident in your knowledge of all fitness equipment.
Spot participants as necessary.
Stay on the move. Be a presence. Circle all areas.
Recommend Personal Training sessions for those who will benefit.
Be knowledgeable about Yates Field House offerings
Check your email regularly.
Check in with the Front Desk or pay attention to the Digital Signage screens to see what activities may be happening on your shift.
Know what programs Yates Field House offers.
Work closely with fellow staff members to ensure a safe and friendly fitness environment. Understanding equipment is an invaluable part of this experience.
Keep fitness area safe and clean
Clean equipment according to the daily cleaning schedule
Record damaged or broken equipment in log and inform Director of Fitness & Wellness and/or a Building Manager.
Lubricate weight equipment as noted on the checklist.
The Fitness Attendant reports to the Director, Fitness & Wellness and also interacts with patrons of Yates Field House. Fitness Attendants also report to the Recreation Center Supervisor when the Director, Fitness & Wellness is not in the building.
Basic knowledge of fitness and exercise
Excellent communication and customer-service skills
