Position Summary: This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora, its clinics and campuses, in realizing the care and improvement in human life. The Director is responsible for the establishment and oversight of the infection prevention and control program at The Medical Center of Aurora, the Behavioral Health and Wellness Center hospital, Centennial Medical Plaza, Saddle Rock Emergency and Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital (Aurora and PSL locations). The Director, in partnership with the medical director, is responsible for establishing, instituting and maintaining an effective system for evaluation and reporting infections in patients in these settings based on a systematic body of professional knowledge. The Director serves clinical areas in a consulting capacity for managing infection risks of complex patients, building staff knowledge of infection prevention tactics, and managing any outbreak concerns. The Director also insures appropriate interventions are implemented for all construction. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Registered Nurse with current licensure in the State of Colorado, preferred, though other clinical backgrounds such as microbiology considered. Completion of Infection Control Surveillance course is required. Certification in Infection Control is required. Certification on Healthcare Quality preferred. Education: Bachelors of Science required, Masters preferred.
Experience: Over seven years clinical nursing or lab/micro experience required with demonstrated five years of previous infection control experience. Program and/or leadership/management experience preferred.
Special Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members. Strong critical thinking skills and project management. Demonstrates knowledge of microbiology, normal flora, pathogens and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
Degree of supervision required: Involves general guidance and direction by the VP Quality. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
