The Manager of Marketing and Communications provides direction and support for the marketing communications team, and is responsible for brand, communications and marketing strategy and execution of programs for Denver Health and its related entities. Participates in strategic planning; preparing contracts; conducting process improvements; managing staff and developing performance standards.
Under minimal supervision, provides direction and support for the marketing communications team, and is responsible for brand, communications and marketing strategy and execution of programs for Public Health. Oversees all elements of internal and external communication for the department; participates in strategic planning; prepares contracts; conducts process improvements; creates, executes and manages integrated marketing campaigns; builds, shapes and maintains relationships with various internal and external partners; manages staff and develops performance standards. Serves as a member of the Department of Public Health's Core Leadership team.
*Works with program areas to identify services and programs that can be a focus for communications, advertising, and media relations in order to meet organizational goals.
*Collects and shares national and local information on trends, competitors and market place for Denver Public Health and/or specific program areas/services. Is instrumental in identifying opportunities for service to grow and/or adapt in order to serve more patients.
*Coordinates internal communications to assure that employees receive current information.
*Formulates strategy recommendations to create a long range marketing plan based around specific program areas, the department and strategic initiatives.
*Uses all aspects of marketing/communications to promote Denver Public Health: advertising, social media, website, events, traditional media and non-traditional media as examples.
*Generates media stories around program areas and/or initiatives. Assists teams to generate talking points as well as prepare spokespeople who may or may not have media experience. Serves as a member of the public information officer (PIO) team for Denver Public Health which may require occasional onsite presence after hours.
*Works within and manages assigned Office of the Director and campaign budgets.
*Supervises Denver Public Health Marketing/PR staff. Delegates responsibilities and provides mentoring and guidance in order to maximize resources and learning. Prioritizes work and resources based on organizational goals and objectives.
*Supports primary research and identifies insights from secondary sources to determine relevant information about Denver Public Health's current and prospective patients and partners using data to inform the marketing strategy. Understands needs, wants, attitudes, awareness and usage at a minimum.
*Develops and maintains an updated assessment of Denver Public Health's position in its market and identifies the key areas for marketing focus.
*Collaborates with Denver Public Health Core Leadership on vision and strategy development to ensure that marketing strategy is consistent with and enables the delivery of the organizational vision, mission, focus, and the strategic initiatives.
*Develops and supervises the development of marketing content. Content includes, but is not limited to: written copy, photography, web posts, social media, video, and graphic design.
*Uses marketing/communications analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, Facebook Business Manager, Domo, Tableau or similar, to assess performance, optimize campaigns and propose new strategies.
*Manages the website and other digital assets of Denver Public Health to present the public face of the organization.
*Conducts research and reviews process to assess efficiency and effectiveness of marketing.
*Assesses new initiatives and innovations to develop and assess business propositions and to identify and test potential audiences.
*Assesses brand performance among key internal and external audiences to measure communication on key attributes, benefits and imagery. Uses data as an actionable tool in refining brand and marketing strategy and resources.
*Manages consistency across all aspects of the Denver Public Health's brand representation, both internally and externally. Reviews and refines brand strategy based upon insights gathered through ongoing research.
*Directs and coaches marketing agencies, graphic designers, etc., to ensure delivery of programs, objectives and budgets. Conducts regular review and assessment of agencies/vendors on performance and value.
*Builds the online reputation of Denver Public Health by managing online reviews, responding to complaints and forming a process for ongoing management of customer feedback.
*Defines the customer journey for prioritized segments, encompassing online and real life experiences, to develop a clear picture of the points of connection where Denver Public Health wins/loses or strengthens/weakens its relationship with customers. Considers prospective and current customers.
*Attends formal training to keep understanding of Marketing/PR current.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to travel between clinics and travel to public relations events.
Bachelor's in Marketing, Communications or Public Relations, or related field. Masters' degree preferred.
Five years experience in consumer brand marketing and healthcare, working in all functional brand marketing communications disciplines and all media channels (owned, earned & paid) required. * Experience should include: insight, research and strategy; brand strategy; agency management; customer experience and activation; marketing campaign planning, execution, and measurement. * Strong commercial experience and sound judgment in assessing the financial performance of marketing programs to ensure the achievement of business goals. * Staff management and leadership experience required.
