Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Project Engineer – Commissioning for University Facilities. This position reports to the Senior Director, Utility Operations. The Project Engineer works independently and manages the commissioning activity for major renovation projects and retro commissioning projects with an emphasize on mechanical systems and building controls. The position also works with the project manager, Utilities controls group, and Facilities Operations from project inception through the commissioning process to building operations after project completion.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Works with Facilities Maintenance Services and Utilities on Retro-commissioning select buildings which are experiencing operational issues.
Improves the energy efficiency of the buildings by insuring the building controls are operating the buildings as efficiently as possible.
Manages commissioning services and conduct inspections required for building commissioning and manage projects.
Performs observations, inspections, commissioning and/or re-commissioning of projects. Attends various design and construction meetings.
Works with designers, balancers, contractors and commissioning agents to complete projects with systems operating as designed.
Works with A/Es during design to develop design parameters and commissioning requirements for the project.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience with HVAC.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills are required.
Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position
Professional engineers license or HVACR license in New Jersey or Commissioning certification.
Experience with energy conservation a plus.
Mechanical/electrical equipment, pneumatic calibrating tools, electrical meters, voltage generating transducers, EMS software monitoring and calibrating, EMS software programming and adjusting. Lap top ATC operating systems, PC Facilities Work Order system and Windows applications. Lon-works Bae-net and Web accessible applications.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Position will be required to carry and work from a ladder and carry tools (up to 40 lbs).
Positions will also be required to take air flow readings or work with V AV controls from a ladder.
