Position summary: As an experiential development program, the manager in training (MIT) will support in the marketing function for residential, retail and catering operations within Michigan Dining. Primary focus of position is learning and use of operating systems in the daily support and function of the marketing department.
The Marketing MIT, will learn and work with the Marketing Manager in: development and implementation of department marketing and communication strategy; increase optional meal plan and blue bucks sales, increase retail and catering sales and research revenue growth opportunities, develop marketing material that “tell the story” of Michigan dining and the direction of food, sustainability projects, student engagement activities, student development within work position. In collaboration with Michigan Dining Senior Leadership team, provide maintenance and expansion of electronic marketing mediums, such as the website, e-newsletters, social media, and production of newsletters, brochures, marketing materials, and press releases.
This is a full-time, term limited position ending after 1 year from the hire date and is eligible for U-M benefits.
As a member of Marketing Leadership, you will help coordinate the efforts of the Student Marketing Team, consisting of : Event Ideation & Planning (original events and partnering with student groups to promote / support their events) Events Teams, Events Leads, Graphic Artist, Social Media, Measurements (financial) and Student Managers
Collaborate with Michigan Dining Senior Leadership, Resident Hall Association and Student Government to manage all department marketing strategies and align goals.
Update and communicate marketing dashboards and metrics reports and review website content for accuracy, ensure information and links to other sites remain current.
Analyze marketing programs and adjust strategy and tactics to increase effectiveness and provide post-event reports, analysis on marketing programs.
Develop and ensure brand guidelines as set by the Student Life Auxiliary Marketing.
Monitor Events calendar as it relates to Marketing opportunities and responsibilities.
Student Staff Oversight
Partner with the Marketing Manager to provide management, direction and mentoring of student staff direct reports.
Ensure student staff represent the Department in a positive way; evaluate and provide regular feedback to direct reports; ensure the hiring and development of student programming staff meets Department needs and goals.
Collaborate with RHA, CSG & Food Advisory board and other student groups.
Staff Recruitment Marketing
Partner with Michigan Dining Senior Leadership and the Culinary team to develop staff recruitment marketing materials.
Optional Meal Plan and Blue Buck Sales
Develop strategic recruitment and retention efforts that increase revenues through promotional events and marketing to ensure meal plan goals are met.
Represent the department at fairs, expos, and off campus events promoting M|Dining.
6 months of experience in marketing or equivalent hospitality experience. - May be as a student worker.
High School Diploma
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business or related field.
Experience in marketing campus services and familiarity with University food service operations.
Experience in the successful development of students or staff.
This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Cleary.
Relocation will not be offered for this position.
Must be able to remain in a stationary period for long periods of time and move quickly to assist with events and service in our dining halls, cafes, markets and at catering events as needed.
