| The primary purpose of this field technician position is to support the Long Island Shellfish Restoration Program. This position will consist of fieldwork focusing on shellfish husbandry, including the maintenance, deployment, operation, and removal of floating upweller systems (FLUPSYs) as well as deployment of spat on shell oysters at multiple sites throughout Long Island. Other work will include the use of motor vehicles and boats, the use of manual and electric hand tools, and maintenance and repair of equipment, all in support of the growing, handling, monitoring, measuring, counting, and planting of shellfish in Long Island waters. This position will be accountable to the Senior Issue Educator Educator (Long Island Shellfish Restoration Project Manager). The general nature of this position will be to act under direct supervision as a program team member. The position will initially be based out of the Suffolk County Marine Environmental Learning Center, Southold, NY. Later in the season, the position will be based out of western CCE locations depending on programmatic needs (e.g., Yaphank, Huntington, or Babylon). Required Qualifications: - High School Diploma and 2 years of volunteer or work experience in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications: - Associate's Degree or Equivalent Education in environmental sciences, hydrology, natural resource management, engineering, or other related fields.
- Experience working with handheld water quality monitoring devices.
- Experience handling shellfish.
- Experience using (GIS) Geographic Information Systems.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Administrative Responsibilities:
Coordination/Operation - 95% - Maintain shellfish nursery FLUPSYs following strict programmatic protocols throughout Long Island in support of the overall shellfish restoration program.
- Help deliver and deploy various shellfish nursery equipment and materials to field sites throughout Long Island to prepare and maintain FLUPSYs.
- Use an association vehicle and/or an association vessel to gain access to the nursery sites.
- Interact with project volunteers to conduct FLUPSY maintenance and data collection. If requested by the program Supervisor represent the Association before the public, community leaders and Cornell or other land grant universities as part of program delivery
- Collect, organize, and format research data in a timely fashion using established databases.
- Assist Supervisor in tracking the growth and development of shellfish grown throughout Long Island using standard methods involving size, volume, and other appropriate parameters.
- Assist with routine collection of field data relative to water quality (WQ) tests (e.g., salinity, nutrients, temp., etc.) and assist with the processing of samples in the laboratory (e.g., sediments) as necessary.
- Perform fundamental data analysis under the guidance and supervision of the Supervisor.
