The Minnesota Center for Diversity in Economics (MCDE) seeks a part-time (.5 FTE) Program Coordinator for a three-year, grant-funded position. The selected candidate will design, implement and promote co-curricular economics education. The MCDE, an affiliate of the Minnesota Council on Economic Education, was launched at St. Kate’s in 2018. It embodies St. Catherine University’s commitment to making economics education accessible to all students. The MCDE promotes and supports diversity in economics at every stage of the educational and career pipeline, ensuring that people of all backgrounds are trained to engage in and influence economic research and decision-making.
Responsibilities: Together with the MCDE director, the program coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing a range of new economics education programming offered through the Center. The coordinator will facilitate student surveys and focus groups and, depending on experience and expertise, lead or assist with program evaluation and grant writing. Programming may include:
“Great debates” about how markets function and should be regulated (e.g., Should College be Free? Should the Twin Cities Implement Rent Control?).
In coordination with Multicultural and International Programs and Services “Cornbread and Chili” nights panel discussions focused on race and economics.
In partnership with business incubators, “Shark Tank” style case study competitions where students compete to see who can offer the best market analysis to nascent businesses.
“Spin-the-wheel” weekly market learning activities and educational material in the Coeur de Catherine student center during common free hour.
In partnership with the Money Management program, a workshop series on markets offered in alignment with students lived experiences (e.g.; understanding the textbook market, the market for student loans, the labor market, etc.)
Bachelor’s degree and coursework in economics
Experience working with diverse groups
Experience with project management
Bachelor’s degree in economics or a related field
Experience with co-curricular undergraduate student programming
Experience creating a culture of equity and inclusion
Experience planning events
Experience mentoring others
Training or experience with grant writing
Experience evaluating programs for effectiveness
