POSITIONACCOUNTABILITIESANDESSENTIALFUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Public Information, the Graphic Designer will create both print and digital communication materials to assist the college in reaching its strategic goals. Conceptualize and create design solutions that uphold Delta’s personality and identity for a diverse set of audiences. The Graphic Designer should be knowledgeable of current design trends and best practices.
ESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIESINCLUDEBUTARENOTLIMITED TO THEFOLLOWING:
Design key print materials which could include: viewbooks, direct mail, magazines, brochures, posters, postcards, flyers, and other recruitment, promotional and advancement materials.
Research and develop solutions to marketing and communications challenges, finding the most effective way to communicate in print and electronic media using design, color, type, illustration, photography, and various print and layout techniques.
Apply up-to-date design knowledge to create materials for all of the college’s audiences, knowing each is unique.
Work independently or collaboratively on a variety of project simultaneously.
Contribute in developing branding, marketing, fundraising and recruiting advertising campaign strategies. Help develop 2-3 year campaign design framework.
Contribute to brand evolution strategy to meet the needs of the audiences and goals of the college. Collaborate with the development and maintenance of brand standards. Serve as a campus resource for questions about branding.
Maintain relationships with internal clients and external vendors. Effectively communicate conceptual ideas and design rationale verbally and visually.
Work with the on-campus and off-campus printing facilities, assuring all projects are competed with high quality and within desired time frames and budgets. Understanding of four-color press and digital printing processes, and preparing and packaging design files for print. Have knowledge of relevant materials (paper, ink), tools, costs and processes (binding).
Work in close collaboration with other members of the marketing team to recommend visual and creative solutions.
Utilize team’s design and digital asset management system.
Proofread for typos and missing information. When necessary, edit copy to better communicate with the target audience.
Stay up-to-date on new design trends and technology.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related filed or equivalent knowledge and skills.
3-5 years related experience designing everything from magazines and recruitment packages, to lightpole banners and bus wraps.
Strong ability to create design solutions for a diverse set of audiences.
Fluency with core design principals (typography, flow, color composition, imagery).
Comfortable working in a Mac environment, with demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office.
Aptitude for manipulating photos and graphic elements for best visual outcome.
Willing to work within established brand guidelines and accept client input.
Strong communication skills. Able to articulate technical issues to a diverse non-technical audience.
Organized. Able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines.
Excellent attention to detail (grammar and spelling) in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
Ability to adhere to and edit using the college’s style guide.
Higher education experience preferred.
