The Department of Special Education and the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders seek a candidate for an innovative position that integrates research, teaching, and clinical program coordination for our Applied Behavior Analysis program. The candidate selected will work collaboratively with faculty and staff at the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders and the College of Education. This person will have current grant funding (if more senior) or will actively seek external and/or federal funding to study topics in the person's area of interest. In addition, the candidate will teach related coursework in the undergraduate/graduate program.
Teaching-related activities may include:
Continue to develop the University of Missouri's Master's degree and Certification (graduate and undergraduate) programs in ABA
Serve as ABAI Verified Course Sequence (VCS) liaison
Design course curricula and teach as a primary instructor
Assist in recruitment, application screening, and interviewing of graduate students
Assist in the coordination of practicum placements and direct supervision of students in both the Master's program and Graduate Certificate programs at the Thompson Center and in the community
Direct supervision, training and feedback to BCBAs and graduate students attaining practicum hours to complete their degree and prepare for the BCBA exam
Advise the graduate student thesis course, which includes proposal and defense requirements
Maintain an active research agenda by conducting ABA-based research projects in the ABIS division at the Thompson Center, in the Department of Special Education, or the community
Supervise research projects involving clinicians and collaborate on interdisciplinary projects across the Thompson Center and Department of Special Education
Present findings at regional and national conferences from research conducted at the Thompson Center and Department of Special Education
Publish in peer reviewed journals relevant to ABA, Special Education, and Related Fields
Serve as director of Applied Behavior Intervention Services (ABIS) and liaison to community collaborators:
Provide overall leadership, supervision, and oversight for the ABIS division and members, including the intersection of clinical operations with the academic program.
Attend administrative and organizational meetings, weekly ABIS meetings, and other Thompson Center leadership meetings
Represent the Thompson Center and Department of Special Education's interests with ABA program stakeholders at the University of Missouri, in the community, and at national conferences and meetings.
Ensure ABIS clinics and providers abide by BACB supervision and ethical standards.
An earned doctorate in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, or closely related field
Candidates will be Evaluated on the Following Factors:
Publication record and evidence of securing (if more senior) or pursuing external grant funding
Current grant funding
Clinical experience supervising faculty and BCBAs
Experience in the assessment and treatment of severe problem behavior across clinic and school settings
Experience in organizational behavior management (OBM) best practice procedures
4+ years supervising BCBAs or BCBA hours
Experience applying for and obtaining external grant funding
Research and expertise in applied behavior analysis content areas
Evidence of an active research agenda through peer-reviewed publications and national/international presentations
Teaching evaluations in graduate and undergraduate courses
Proven project management and organization skills
Ability to advise and provide instructional supervision to a diverse student body
Evidence of participation in state and national professional organizations
Commitment to and experience with equity, diversity, and inclusion

The Department of Special Education (SPED), in its 50 th anniversary, is one of five academic units within the MU College of Education. SPED offers programs for students seeking undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees. The undergraduate program is focused on pre-service teacher preparation in mild/moderate cross-categorical disabilities. Master's programs, both on-line and on-campus, focus on advanced teacher professional development in areas including: Applied Behavior Analysis, Early Childhood Special Education, Gifted Education, Cross Categorical, Behavioral Disorders, Learning Disabilities, and Autism Education. Department Faculty continue to be successful in securing federal funding to support Masters students through federal training grants. The department offers Doctoral programs to establish leaders in the area of research and teacher preparation in the following areas: Behavioral Disorders, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Special Education Administration, and Early Childhood Special Education. All admitted doctoral students are supported with tuition and fiscal support through departmental funding as well as federally funded programs.
SPED faculty members are consistently recognized - internationally and across the U.S. - for their individual and collaborative research excellence. SPED is home to several state and federally supported training, demonstration, and research projects, including the Center for School-Wide Positive Behavioral Supports, the Center for the Prevention of School Violence, the Center for Social and Behavioral Competence, and the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders. The Department of Special Education has the highest per faculty member external funding average in the College of Education.
