The Department of Information Technology welcomes applications for the position of Database Administrator. The Database Administrator is responsible for supporting several Oracle Databases implementations, including mission critical support of our Ellucian Banner ERP, and related systems. As a key member of the Information Technology, this position works with a team of Database Administrators and Application Developers dedicated to providing excellent support of our customers. You will work to ensure integrity and high availability of these essential systems.
Daily tasks include applying both Oracle and Ellucian Banner ERP patches and upgrades, monitoring and tuning system performance, user access, database security, documentation, defining database tables, functions, views and packages. You will also work with the ERP project team (or other project teams as required) to determine needs, set priorities, create project plans and determine schedule for installations/upgrades. You will be responsible for applying vendor delivered patches in a timely manner. The Database Administrator is also responsible for the support of Apache Tomcat and numerous third party products integrating with the Oracle ERP databases. The Database Administrator will have the ability to make a reverberating impact as part of a team that is heavily involved in research and education, prototyping, management, and commercialization.
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems and/or five years of experience in the information technology field as an Oracle Database Administrator is required. Adaptability while working in a rapidly changing technological environment is essential. Excellent customer service and communication skills are a must.

Create, maintain and refresh required Oracle instances/databases for development, test and production environments.
In conjunction with the network security administrator, establish and manage user access, and design and implement security architecture.
Monitor security breaches, error log(s), database and log space, user activity and resource utilization of production environment.
Work with application programmers to ensure application problems do not adversely affect production operations.
Monitor system resources of database servers to assure production systems meet performance & availability requirements and hardware enhancements are scheduled in a timely fashion.
Provide after hours on-call support for critical database issues.
Provide expert assistance in SQL and Pl/SQL statement tuning to improve performance.
Act as project liaison and coordinate with Linux system administrators for application of OS patches and maintenance required for database servers.
Following standards, write, maintain and document Linux scripts needed in support of applications.
Work with ERP project team (or other project teams as required) to determine needs, set priorities, create project plans and determine schedule for installations/upgrades.
Document all related procedures including disaster recovery.
Experience with installation of Oracle products in a Linux environment, Ellucian Banner/Oracle DBA, Application servers such as Tomcat and WebLogic, and/or IBM System z is preferred.
