Berkeley Lab’s Security and Emergency Service Division (https://ehs.lbl.gov/) has an opening for a Physical Security Supervisor. You will play a critical role in the development, maintenance, personnel management and implementation of innovative security technology strategies and solutions for the Physical Security Program. You are responsible for the protection of the Lab’s people, properties, and assets. This newly created position will report directly to the Physical Security Manager to develop and implement site surveys and risk management, security systems design, system integration, and interoperability, conducting risk assessment vulnerability reports and impact analysis, associated program reporting of metrics using data analytics, program management, strategy analysis and selection, and documentation of systems, procedures, and metrics.
What You Will Do:
Support the Physical Security Manager with the analysis, development and implementation plans for security programs, policies, guidelines, and methodologies.
Stay current with professional best practices and emerging technologies that could complement/improve the lab’s security system infrastructure.
Maintain Physical Security Systems data, documentation, and program content on the team’s intranet site and shared drives.
Provide direct supervision to the Physical Security Technician team ensuring completion of projects, preventative maintenance schedules, and physical security systems oversight.
Act as an advisor to the Physical Security Technicians and stakeholders and may become actively involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve technical problems.
Provide Physical Security program support functions including updating program management reports and tracking the progress of open and on-going initiatives.
Track and report on program performance assurance and compliance requirements within the provided guidelines.
Develop relationships with stakeholders and facilitate collaboration and have the ability to influence informally across different departments within the lab.
Define systems and resiliency risks through impact assessments; collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Partner with internal partners on-site security as a Security Product Manager to understand and address their needs pertaining to technology solutions.
Support security exercises and testing.
Supervise Physical Security Projects as required.
Assist with and perform physical security audits and inspections.
Assist and performs tasks within the security awareness program.
Assist with the development, management, and reporting or Physical Security Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Assist with the implementation of Security technology strategies and solutions for access control and CCTV systems and their integration at the security operations center.
Attend project meetings to assess the security implications of proposed changes.
Act as a member of the LNBL Emergency Response Organization as required.
What Is Required:
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, security management or related field and a minimum of two years of substantial relevant experience related to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
Demonstrated experience with supervising or managing technicians, technical programs, technical project management and systems design related to essential duties to include information management systems and databases.
Working knowledge in the areas of information technology n-tier architecture, IP networking, SQL query use, inter-application communication and data exchange, and endpoint device operations in a security technology environment.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Experience with IP based and electronic security and communication systems.
Experience with basic networking concepts; IP addresses, MAC Addresses.
Broad Experience working with LAN and WAN based systems.
Computer-Aided electronics drafting and design-documentation skills.
Ability to read as-builts, topology diagrams, data flow diagrams.
Certification(s) as an Administrator for an Access Control System or Video Management System.
Significant experience as a physical security operations center analyst, corporate security specialist, public safety, risk management or other related fields.
ASIS Certification (e.g. PSP, CPP).
