Summary Description: Roles and Responsibilities
• Design and develop online learning experiences to support program and course outcomes; • Make recommendations for hardware and/or software tools to support online courses; • Assess needs and develop solutions for faculty professional development on a range of technology resources, processes, and initiatives; • Serve as a member of the internal Online Course Evaluation Team, providing consultation and design/development services as needed to support high-quality online courses; • Maintain design and development skills through ongoing professional development activities; • Ability to work on and complete assigned tasks with minimal oversight; and • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
• Master’s Degree; • A passion for supporting and advocating for diversity, equity, and accessibility; • A creative and innovative mindset dedicated to investigating emerging technologies for teaching and learning; • Ability to work collaboratively in a collegial environment; • High-level critical thinking and creativity; and • Strongly developed understanding of learning theories, instructional design methods, and learner-centered design principles, especially as these apply to online environments.
Preferred Skills/Other Experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite; • Experience using online education platforms (e.g., Canvas, D2L, etc.) in an instructor or designer capacity; • Demonstrated experience with Adobe Creative Cloud suite, Captivate, or similar development tools; • Familiarity with copyright and fair use considerations for the design of online learning experiences; • Familiarity with common online teaching certification standards (e.g. Quality Matters, OLC, etc.); • Knowledge of AECT instructional design standards for online learning preferred; • 3+ years of experience teaching online courses in either higher education or K12 settings; • Experience leveraging audio and video technologies to support online course experiences; • 3+ years of experience providing professional development in higher education or K12 settings; • Experience working with faculty on course design and development for online environments; • Knowledge of backward design and UBD principles; • Experience with adaptive testing design and development; • Experience teaching and/or training using synchronous tools; • Experience working with a design team; • Experience applying Universal Design for Learning principles; • Proficiency with HTML5 and CSS; • Experience developing interactive learning objects for web-based delivery; • Knowledge of recent trends in the research of online teaching and learning; • Knowledge of college/university processes, requirements, deadlines, etc.; and • Experience with project management.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
• 40 hours per week; • Requires 25%-40% travel between two campuses one hour apart; • Requires delivering in person training to faculty and staff across both campuses; • Reliable, consistent attendance is a requirement and essential function of all positions; • Punctuality and dependability are expected in order to meet the needs of the department and the College; • Physical demands consistent with an office environment; • Requires several hours per day of sitting, getting up and down from chairs, and reaching or bending; • Requires occasionally lifting and/or moving objects weighing up to 20 pounds; • Requires talking, hearing, and seeing as important elements for completing assigned tasks; and • Requires the ability to reason, negotiate, instruct, and speak with others, and the ability to respond appropriately to feedback.
