| Promotional Paragraph: The School of Art at Ball State University welcomes applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor of Art (Painting) to begin August, 2020. Responsibilities include teaching courses to undergraduate BFA/BA students in Painting, Drawing, and Foundations; engaging in professional practice, research, and activities related to the discipline; and contributing to curriculum development and departmental service. The School of Art at Ball State has forty-nine full-time faculty and offers state-of-the-art facilities serving almost 600 undergraduate majors as well as a growing graduate program. Programs at the BA, BS, BFA and MFA levels include animation, art education, art history, ceramics, drawing, glass, graphic arts management, metals, painting, photography and intermedia arts, printmaking, sculpture, and visual communication (graphic design). Housed in the Art and Journalism building, School of Art students enjoy over 57,000 square feet of world-class facilities, a nationally ranked animation program, the Atrium Gallery, and the Glick Center for Glass. Students and faculty work closely with David Owsley Museum of Art on campus, among the finest university art collections in the nation. Description: An artist who specializes in abstract, non-objective and expanded approaches to painting is needed, in order to provide a balanced curriculum that offers traditional, experimental and emerging approaches to the discipline. The Painting area also has the need for an artist who can deliver instruction in Watercolor, a course that is in demand for many School of Art majors. In addition to responsibilities in the Painting area, this faculty member would contribute to the Foundations program and the Drawing area. Additional instruction would take place with senior thesis capstone projects and the School of Art MFA program. These responsibilities are best served by an artist with a professional practice who can mentor students as they move through their coursework and prepare for a future as a creative professional. Minimum Qualifications: MFA degree in Painting from an accredited institution. Evidence of teaching potential as demonstrated with samples of syllabi, a teaching philosophy statement specific to painting, curriculum vitae, list of courses taught and digital samples of student works. Evidence of a strong research practice as demonstrated through portfolio images of personal work and an artist's statement.Preferred Qualifications: Documented teaching experience at the college or university level beyond graduate assistantships. Evidence of working successfully in a collaborative team approach to teaching.
