Interlochen Arts Academy is a premiere arts school located in Northwestern Lower Michigan. Students study one of six arts majors: Dance, Film and New Media, Music, Interdisciplinary Arts, Theater, Visual Arts or Creative Writing and complete a rigorous college preparatory academic curriculum. The Filmmaker-in-Residence is a one to two-semester position teaching secondary students in the Film and New Media Division. Teaching responsibilities include one section of Production Workshop and two sections of a cinematic arts course in post-production/editing developed in conjunction with the director of Film and New Media. As a seasonal faculty member of Production Workshop, the FIR is also responsible for weekly Thesis Advisor meetings with a share of Thesis Students’ student productions, and the development/guidance of productions from script to screen. Other responsibilities include scheduled tutorials with students, department activities, regular meetings, and daytime/evening rehearsals, casting and location productions. Professional behavior and appropriate use of facilities/equipment required.
The instructor is provided with a computer and has access to a projector and printer, and other equipment as necessary.
Artist in Residence are provided with a computer, e-mail/network account, three meals a day, one-bedroom apartment, a stipend of $8500.00 (per semester) with optional insurance. They also enjoy the camaraderie of other artists and the pleasure/challenge of teaching young artists.

Application Letter (required)- A letter describing how participation in the program will support the applicant’s growth as a professional in this area and their ability to introduce new innovative teaching methods to Film and New Media students. The letter should also include a brief overview of the project desired to complete while in residence. Develop a short synopsis of the project, including your goals and a description. In your letter, please indicate your preferred semester.
Curriculum Vita (required)- A vita that outlines the applicant's professional and teaching experience. This should also include a list of production/post/sound credits, a Quicktime File of, or link to, current reel.

Applicants must have an in-depth understanding of visual storytelling from the point of view of the editor, experienced with the Adobe Suite of software, asset management and post-production workflow with a variety of camera formats. An understanding of post effects (green screen, color grading, motion graphics) and digital asset management software is a plus. Teaching experience is required. Previous experience working in a high school setting with secondary education students is desired. Expertise in Sound Mix/Sound Design is a plus.
