Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biomedical, electrical, nuclear, chemical engineering, nuclear/medical physics or a related field. Two (2) years experience in medical cyclotron operation and maintenance. Relevant laboratory work experience or directly related experience in research techniques. Experience with collecting and analyzing data. Experience with Microsoft Suite.
Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Additional years (3+) of medical cyclotron operation and maintenance experience. Knowledge of basic cGMP practices and procedures. Experience with maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the following: solid state electronics, analog and digital circuits, logic circuits/PLCs, and/or electro-mechanical systems. Knowledge of aseptic techniques and processes. Knowledge of Radiation Safety, ALARA Concepts and Radioactive Materials. Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing in FDA-regulated environment, or comparable mechanical, electronic, laboratory background. High voltage training.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Senior Research Support Specialist will be responsible for developing, monitoring, coordinating and managing activities to maintain effective operation of the cyclotron operations. The successful incumbent must have communication skills, ability to be detail-oriented, and dependability required. The incumbent will have ability to understand detailed theory of operation for most accelerator systems and role of isotope production in radioactive drug manufacturing.
Operate and manage the cyclotron(s) according to proper operating procedures when manufacturing schedule requires. Participate in the initial assembly, acceptance testing and validation of a new cyclotron/radiochemistry facility.
Communicate frequently with the RadioChemistry personnel to coordinate cyclotron daily production activities.
Oversee the routine, non-routine, scheduled, and emergency maintenance on the cyclotron(s).
Develop SOPs and documentation related to cyclotron operations per work instructions, including preventative maintenance, repair, and audit logs.
Oversee the diagnosis and repair on the following: Electronic equipment, electro-pneumatic systems, high vacuum systems, deionized chilled water systems, high voltage, target, and high-power RF systems. Ensure the maintenance and repair of all PET manufacturing equipment at the facility including lead-shielded hot cells, radiosynthesis modules,etc.
With the Facility director, oversee the work of all third-party contractors on equipment related to manufacturing.
Provide timely information to supervisors regarding equipment operation and status.
Ensure compliance with all procedures and regulations within the site under the Quality Assurance program as applicable, including participating in exception document reporting (e.g. deviations, corrective and preventive action plans, out-of-specifications, etc.)
Provide technical training and support to other employees.
Other duties as assigned.
The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder for service/maintenance. Frequently moves equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. The person in this position occasionally bends or operates in confined spaces and positions oneself to maintain the cyclotron (i.e. inside or underneath the cyclotron). Occupational exposure to ionizing radiation.
