Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesThe Assistant Director of Annual Giving, Student Education & Young Alumni Philanthropy works as part of a high-performing, donor-centered staff team responsible for assisting Vassar's Annual Giving team achieve its leadership annual giving goals. Using email, social media, cloud platforms, video conferencing and phone, the Assistant Director connects with current Vassar students and provides information that deepens their understanding and connection to the college, and educates them on the importance of giving back to Vassar as alumnae/i. Using a suite of technological tools, the Assistant Director is responsible for developing personal relationships with an assigned portfolio of annual giving young alumnae/i donor prospects that result in renewed or increased support to the college. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of Annual Giving, and will collaborate with the Senior Associate Director of Strategic Marketing & Analytics, as well as the Vassar Alumnae/i Engagement team and the Vassar Alumnae/i Association.
The Assistant Director of Annual Giving, Student Education and Young Alumni Philanthropy will focus on managing an annual giving program that includes personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of young alumnae/i annual giving programs. Young alumnae/i annual giving is of key priority and there will be additional emphasis placed on increasing young alumnae/i donor engagement. The Assistant Director will also manage a portfolio of young alumnae/i donors and build and manage a network of lapsed young alumnae/i donors.
Manage a portfolio of young alumnae/i donors. Cultivate relationships with these donors via email, phone, social media, video conferencing, texting, and cloud platform. Perform multiple outbound touch points per day.
Manage and build upon the student Vassar Fund education program, involve students in the promotion of the Generation Vassar Challenge, work with students to identify leaders and onboard volunteers prior to graduation.
Demonstrate to the donor the impact of their giving. Provide information on college developments and programs relative to their interests. Share upcoming opportunities to attend events, volunteer, participate in Vassar clubs, Alumnae/i Association activities/services, or otherwise deepen their engagement with the university.
Solicit young alumnae/i donors to renew, give monthly or upgrade. Promote philanthropic opportunities, such as college giving priorities, crowdfunding projects, Generation Vassar Challenge.
Develop and maintain a broad knowledge of the college, such as admissions, athletics, the arts, etc. Develop a network of contacts throughout the college to access for additional information. Build out a 'resource hub' of relevant content to share with volunteers.
Collaborate effectively with other members of the Annual Giving, Advancement Communications, etc. as part of a comprehensive multi-channel marketing program, including direct mail, email, social media and telefund channels.
Identify and troubleshoot challenges to donors' on-line giving and engagement experience and work with appropriate colleagues to address.
Identify and engage with young alumnae/i influencers in the digital and social media realms.
Identify potential major gift prospects and forward these to colleagues, as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree required.
One or more years of professional experience in direct sales, fundraising or marketing; higher education fundraising experience preferred. Education and experience equivalencies will be considered.
Knowledge of Vassar College programs preferred.
Adept at using social media, text, phone and video conferencing.
Must be strategic, hardworking, and able to work with a high degree of flexibility in a highly-collaborative, fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
Must have strong oral and written communication skills and strong collaboration and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize effectively.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills, strong work ethic and readiness to engage alumnae/i and friends at a high velocity in a personalized manner.
Ability to handle interpersonal relationships maturely, thoughtfully, and empathetically, including the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Experience navigating and using databases, familiarity with CRM systems and entering contact reports. This includes the ability to use multiple cloud-based platforms simultaneously to gain information.
Ability to create strong professional relationships across mediums, especially via video conferencing, including ability to provide excellent customer service.
Comfortably solicit donors.
Ability to articulate a strong and compelling case for support and be fluent in the 'menu' of engagement and philanthropic opportunities across the college (regional alumnae/i events, on campus events, mentorship and volunteer opportunities, crowdfunding campaigns, Vassar fundraising priorities) to inform conversations and solicitations.
Apply creative and entrepreneurial thinking, while applying sound judgment and conducting oneself with integrity.
Must handle confidential material responsibly and interact professionally with a wide spectrum of individuals.
Regular, predictable attendance is required; may require occasional weekend and evening work.
Ability to work under strict deadlines is required.
Ability to travel as needed.
