Department: Alumni Relations & Development Salary/Grade: EXS/8
This role is within the fast-paced Schools & Programs team of Alumni Relations and Development (ARD) and engages in direct prospect solicitation to support the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications and the Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences. The position has a dual reporting structure and is also responsible for significant internal project management, such as advisory board development, annual fund marketing efforts, and major gift proposal writing. Travels to solicit major gifts of $100K - $1M. Will interface with the dean, program directors, major gift officers, and faculty.
Gathers data, assesses leads, and develops strategies designed to realize the giving potential of individual prospects.
Assists with development of annual fund yearly plan.
Facilitates or makes solicitations.
Ensures effective stewardship.
Involves high-level of collaboration with both internal department partners and with school dean’s office.
Key partnerships and work include:
Interfacing with major gifts team to share leads and develop strategies.
Assisting dean’s office with events and advisory board.
Meeting with annual fund direct marketing team to meet annual deadlines for phone/mail/reunion solicitations.
Prospects & Gifts
Develops, plans & implements strategies, goals & approaches to close major gifts.
Partners with other areas of development, specifically Major gifts and Reunions teams.
Identifies, researches & personally solicits Major gifts of $100K - $1M and higher, managing a portfolio of approximately 40 75 prospects.
Recommends changes to enhance innovation, objectives & goals.
Requires travel throughout the region or country.
May co-organize events necessary to the cultivation of school prospects.
Gathers, records and retrieves information about prospects and donors utilizing the University's donor and alumni tracking database, Internet, meetings with development staff, faculty, etc.
Prepares contact reports on meetings and interactions with alumni.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
4 years development, marketing, sales or the equivalent experience is required.
