The Dispersions & Resins business of BASF prides itself in offering a comprehensive range of solutions for formulators' needs for products in coatings, inks, adhesives, and building materials.
As a Technical Service Specialist in our Dispersions & Resins business, you will represent the "Formulation & Performance Additives" business of BASF Corp., providing technical service and technical sales support to Furniture & Flooring (F&F) / Building Products coating accounts including: product presentation and selection, new product introductions, technical inquiries and troubleshooting. You will identify new opportunities and product needs and initiate new business support lab projects. You will plan, organize, lead, and compile the results of the lab projects in reports for presentation to customers. You will identify potential development programs and coordinate with R&D on potential new product concepts, providing expertise and observation to identify potential technical and market opportunities.
Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Your deliverables will include:
Utilize in-depth technical know-how on formulation, application and test methodology for the F&F / Building Products industry to sell and support BASF Additives in industry/sub-segments; supports test method development in conjunction with external test method societies.
Stays current with trends, development and innovations in F&F / Building Products industry and the relevant product lines, maintain knowledge of customer application testing, and supports business growth through participation at trade shows/conferences, active role in industry organizations to represent BASF interests and training of direct and indirect customers. Works in compliance with EH&S and ISO standards
Works as an individual contributor by developing and testing formulated solutions. Coaches/mentors Application Chemists and Laboratory Technicians. Owns the technical relationships with selected customers. Establishes relationships and becomes the trusted advisor with the customer's technical community to facilitate growth opportunities. Demonstrates industry technical leadership and technology/product line application expertise.
Provides both remote and on-site customer support to ensure long-term customer loyalty including state of the art customer consulting and training. Proactively pursues and focuses on execution of customer-driven innovations and new application fields and manage joint development projects with full accountability
Assists strategic account manager and account managers in the selling process through formulated solutions development, technical relationship management, and operations support and trouble-shooting. Assists marketing managers in developing value propositions, product brochures and actively maintaining the product development pipeline for markets of expertise
Acts as technical gate keeper for R&D projects by approving use of newly developed products in specific applications and by developing technical proposals/ideas. Demonstrated ability to identify R&D opportunities through interaction and knowledge of markets, industry and customers. Experience utilizing statistical design of experiment tools in R&D.
Work closely with regional and global R&D to take new product developments to commercialization
Approximately 25% travel.

Qualifications - NOTE: Not all positions are eligible for cross-regional relocation/work authorization. Cross regional is defined as movement between countries (e.g. Canada to U.S.).
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Scientific related field plus at least 10 years relevant industry experience -OR- Master's Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Scientific related field plus at least 7 years relevant industry experience -OR- PhD Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Scientific related field plus at least 5 years relevant industry experience
At least 10 years Furniture & Flooring and/or Building Products coatings paint formulation experience
Extensive knowledge in water-based, solvent-based, high solids and UV formulations as they pertain to the F&F / Building Products market
Knowledgeable in the predominant chemistries used in the above technologies
Expertise with Furniture &Flooring and Building Products coatings test protocols both for short-term and long-term product performance
Exceptional presentation and communication skills
Excellent customer relation and orientation skills
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
Proven project management and report writing skills
In depth formulation, application and coating testing experience in interior and exterior factory applied wood coatings, and building product coatings
Fundamental knowledge and practical application of formulation additives products in Furniture & Flooring, and building products market segments
