UW-IT is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing technology solutions to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation and discovery at the UW. UW-IT is currently looking for a Software Engineer who will support the UW-IT work on Finance Transformation, the University’s large scale project to modernize its finance operations, business systems and processes. The position is a role in the newly established UW-IT FT program (ITF).
The Software Engineer will have responsibility to contribute toward implementation of a large number of integrations with the new Finance system – Workday's Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) system. The integrations involve many different systems across a diverse range of internal and external partners. This position will need to translate Finance requirements into platforms such as Workday or other UW enterprise platforms. The Integration Engineer will design existing and new interfaces during the architect phase. The Integration Engineer will develop solutions using a standard quality driven approach. The position will escalate gaps or trade-offs in designs across technical and non-technical audiences using effective communication skills. The Integration Engineer will participate in recommending the most effective and efficient integration design over the course of the project implementation.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, information systems, or equivalent education or related field.
Four years of experience working on increasingly larger projects.
Experience and knowledge working across unit, functional, integration and acceptance testing phases.
Experience contributing to and developing many technical deliverables within large-scale enterprise projects.
Experience designing within a complex data integration environment across multiple platforms, data structures and formats.
Ability to understand business and technical issues and alternatives, and contribute to problem solving and issue resolution within and across these modalities, including system design and configuration, security design, system integration, testing, training, reporting, and requirements tracking.
Experience transferring knowledge across technical and testing staff. Experience working with subject matter experts and business leads.
Experience acting as a collaborative and supportive member of a team to accomplish project goals.
Ability to deal with trade-offs, conflict, and change management in a collaborative and positive manner.
Ability to communicate clearly, in writing and orally, to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated experience in object-oriented design, modeling, development, and support of object/relational database systems, and systems documentation.
Knowledge of Service Orientated Architecture (SOA) and using web services for consuming, testing and delivering data between systems.
Expertise with XML transformation using XSLT.
Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Experience in a large university, or other large complex enterprise.
Experience with MS SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 query design, query optimization, troubleshooting, stored procedure development, T-SQL, SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Profiler or equivalent database management system.
Experience working with a finance system at a technical level.
Experience representing and/or leading aspects of system development and implementation efforts across a large, decentralized enterprise.
Experience working on an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, ideally Workday.
Experience working with UW Finance Systems.
Experience with Workday Integration Cloud Platform, Integration Cloud Connect, APIs, EIBs, Workday Studio, Business Objects, etc.
Experience with Jira, SharePoint or other enterprise tools for managing work and tracking deliverables.
Work in an open office environment and contribute to collaborative team work focused on problem-solving. Daily interactions with other team members, subject matter experts and stakeholders at all levels of the organization. While the general working hours are within Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., the Project Manager will, on occasion, need to adjust hours to accommodate the business needs and deadlines.
This position on the Finance Transformation Project is temporarily funded; continued employment is contingent on ongoing funding and performance.
