Conveys the story and mission of the University through various forms of internal and external communication to staff, faculty, alumni and friends. Responsible for ownership of NKU magazine: manages development and editorial direction of the online magazine and establishes its digital brand; manages the creation of the print issue including writing/story assignment/editing/and publication; owns development and production of the NKU podcast series; partners with key stakeholder groups, including (but not limited to): University Advancement, Alumni/Development, Administration/Finance and others as assigned. Lead copy editor.
Primary Responsibilities :
Serve as editor and manager of NKU Magazine- digital and print. Assigns, writes, and edits content that serves University priorities.
Own the formulation and execution of the NKU Magazine print issue and collaborates with Development and Alumni Engagement to showcase student success stories and highlight alumni.
Oversee and own from A-Z and the university’s podcast series.
Drive use of consistent brand voice and tone throughout all communications– including digital, print and podcast–to support the overall University brand. Ensures editorial alignment with the University verbal guidelines. Copy-edit for grammar, punctuation, style, tone, and overall content pursuant to AP and institutional standards.
Work with the communications content specialists, the social media specialist and videographer to strengthen the digital presence of the magazine to engage today's online audience
Direct and manage free lancer writers and editorial intern.
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years experience required. Degree in Journalism, Communications or English preferred.
Exceptional writing skills required.
Proven success in managing multiple priorities simultaneously required.
Project management experience, including managing demanding and rapidly changing schedules and collaboration with different personality types.
Microsoft Office – especially Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as podcasting software. Adobe Creative software experience—especially Photoshop and InDesign—is strongly preferred.
