Who we are:
Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) is one of the nation's premier public radio stations producing programming for radio, digital and live audiences and operates a 46-station radio network serving nearly all of Minnesota and parts of surrounding states. Reaching 1 million listeners each week, MPR and its three regional services' MPR News, Classical MPR and The Current'produce programming for radio, digital and live audiences.
As a visual digital intern, you will be helping to increase our capacity to shoot still and video imagery to enhance our digital product offerings. MPR News has an overall digital growth goal and part of meeting this goal is to enhance our social media offerings and our video views. You will be helping us reach, or exceed, that goal. You will aid MPR News in identifying new ways to deliver visual journalism to a younger audience in different ways, using different platforms. This will help us grow new audiences, which is another key strategic goal for the company.
Key Learning Goals:
Learn how to rapidly respond to news and develop high-quality photographs on a tight timeline.
Work directly with our senior photojournalist and photojournalist on a longer-term project/s as outline and in collaboration with the visual and news team. This will enhance the use of visuals to tell stories using different platforms. This would provide hands-on experience and be a means to skill growth and refinement.
Work alongside reporters and editors to enhance this intern's overall journalism prowess.
Deliver photographs based on provided assignments and will work alongside our staff photographers to enhance their work.
Deliver video based on provided assignment and will work alongside our staff journalists to craft compelling video for a variety of platforms.
Report and write basic news stories and deliver accurate cut lines.
Commitment to learn and enact best journalism practices.
Interest in public service journalism.
Partial subsidy for onsite parking or bus transportation. Day to day transportation is your responsibility.

Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors OR recent graduate (Bachelor's or Master's degree) of no more than 1 year from a college/university program.
Coursework must demonstrate an emphasis in writing, communications or English.
Previous experience or coursework in photography and videography.
Valid driver's license and access to an automobile.
Access to basic photography equipment.
Awareness of current events, news topics and issues are essential.
Reliable news judgment.
Knowledge of AP style and ability to write accurate and complete captions.
Ability to follow directions and work under tight deadlines.
Self-motivated, resourceful, curious, creative and detail oriented.
Ability to learn new computer programs.
