The Department has 350 undergraduate majors and 16 graduate students in a non-traditional Visual Arts department. B. A. and B. F. A. degrees are offered in the following areas: Animation (B. A. , B. F. A.), Cinematic Arts (B. A. , B. F. A.), Graphic Design (B. A. , B. F. A.), Intermedia (B. F. A.), Photography (B. A. , B. F. A.), Print Media (B. A. , B. F. A.), Art History & Museum Studies (B. A.). We also offer an M. F. A. program in Intermedia and Digital Arts (IMDA).
We seek a dynamic individual to join a collaborative team who manage the infrastructure needs and instructional requirement of the Department of Visual Arts.
The successful candidate will work with faculty, staff, graduate students and undergraduate students, and report directly to the Chair of the Department of Visual Arts.
Maintain access to relevant departmental facilities and will oversee Departmental technical and infrastructural needs related to the Foundations area, the graduate program and the Graphic Design area.
Assist the Graduate Program Director, acting as a liaison between graduate students, facilities management, and the Graduate School.
Supervise Graduate Assistants and undergraduate workers
Coordinate events and orientation
Take a leadership role in the management of the M. F. A. graduate studios, including the maker space, and relevant tool facilities and the downtown Baltimore studios at the Lion Brother’s Building.
This exempt, full-time staff appointment is scheduled to begin on Fall 2020 and requires knowledge of the hands-on technical aspects of the Visual Arts.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B. F. A.) or equivalent degree. A minimum of two years of experience and background in art and/or design is required.
Ability to lift load up to 25 pounds and moving equipment on carts and light classroom furniture.
Using hand tools during equipment maintenance and simple repairs.
Standing on concrete floors for extended periods while maintaining or fixing equipment.
Position requires occasional travel to the Lion Brother's Building in Baltimore.
Knowledge of the aesthetic and technical aspects of these fields.
An advanced degree in a related field (M. F. A. ; M. Des. ; M. A. ; M. S.) is preferred.
