EDUCAUSE (http://www.educause.edu), a highly creative, entrepreneurial, national nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education through the use of information technology, is currently seeking a Technical Product Lead for our Analytics Services team. This is a full-time, exempt position with the option to work remotely or from the Louisville, CO office.
The Technical Product Lead will bring a passion for the EDUCAUSE mission to support information technology in higher education, experience in service operations and continual service improvement, a keen ability to troubleshoot and debug, an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy environment, excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail.
This position ensures the successful, on-time, quality delivery of EDUCAUSE member-facing data reporting tools, which provide our members with the information they need to better plan, manage, and deliver IT services for their colleges and universities
The Technical Product Lead uses a combination of product management concepts and data modeling skills to design the data infrastructure needed to maintain and improve Analytics Services user interfaces. The Technical Product Lead is responsible for developing and maintaining production Analytics Services applications, internal operational dashboards used to deploy and monitor Analytics Services, and monitoring KPIs and user inquiries to identify, propose, and implement service improvements. The position manages the work of several third-party development vendors.
Assumes operational responsibility for all Analytics Services user-facing portal interfaces, including ensuring service availability and successful, on-time operational updates.
Coordinates and leads the work of third-party contractors to maintain data collection tools, interactive data tools, and portal interfaces.
Uses programming and technical skills to create and maintain self-service reports and dashboards that facilitate successful operations of Analytics Services, including marketing reports, membership reports, and KPI monitoring dashboards. Current tools include SQL Server Management Studio, QlikSense, Qualtrics, and SurveyGizmo.
Maintains a deep understanding of the Analytics Services technical architecture. Develops and maintains documentation for Analytics Services operational workflow and operational requirements.
Investigates and debugs issues. Delivers timely, friendly, and effective customer service to user inquiries.
Service Evaluation and Improvement
Uses KPIs, user inquires, and service evaluation information to propose and implement service improvements, including adding new features, fixing bugs, and creating new dashboards within Analytics Services portals.
Establishes and maintains development backlogs and plans work sprints.
Proposes and implements improved data workflow processes, quality control standards, and other operational efficiencies.
Data and Analytics Infrastructure
Designs, develops, and maintains data tables, views, and data models needed to produce Analytics Services and that support internal monitoring of Analytics Services engagement.
Integrates data from additional sources including data from EDUCAUSE research surveys, the EDUCAUSE data lake, and external data sources such as IPEDS.
Develops and maintains roadmaps to support the evolving needs of EDUCAUSE’s signature benchmarking initiatives (the EDUCAUSE Core Data Service (CDS) and EDUCAUSE Research in the Technology Community (ETRAC)).
Contributes to EDUCAUSE data lake development efforts to ensure that Analytics Services data integrates and connects with EDUCAUSE business data.
As a frontline user of EDUCAUSE systems and data services, complies with data quality standards; adheres to data governance policies, procedures, and processes for ensuring data integrity. May act as the data collection lead for the department or project.
Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree required in data science, statistics, operations research, computer science, product management, or a related field(s) of study with at least five years of professional experience in a data-intensive environment.
Master’s degree preferred.
Product management experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience with relational databases.
Experience with developing interactive data visualizations based on user requirements using QlikSense, Tableau or other similar data visualization platforms.
Familiarity with survey platforms such as Qualtrics, Survey Gizmo, preferred.
Demonstrated initiative with the ability to manage multiple short-range and long-term projects simultaneously and meet all deadlines.
Experience with continual service improvement methodology, product management, and agile project management.
Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully and proactively, in both oral and written form, with a variety of groups including technical, professional, and executive audiences.
