The Instructional Technologist will provide educational technical support for the Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences (NUCATS) Institute to deliver content to the clinical research workforce. This role will work with faculty and staff to design, coordinate, and deliver online educational courses for the Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute. This individual will work with NUCATS faculty and staff to provide support for NUCATS online learning management system and the associated courses within that system. In addition, the Instructional Technologist will be responsible for creating and maintaining all required documentation (curriculum map, assignment information, etc.) for each course assigned. Projects will focus on delivering educational content to the clinical research workforce, including clinical research staff, trainees, and junior investigators
Under the direction of the Learning Designer Sr, develop educational materials using the pre-selected software and technologies and implement new deliverables through the pre-approved LMS.
Assist the instructional design team on projects, facilitating audio/video recording, graphic design, and multimedia production.
Archive and catalog online instructional resources. Track usage trends as applicable.
Integrate current and NU-supported educational technologies to promote effective teaching and learning. Provide technology consultations and support for the implementation of new technologies in both online and live educational programs.
Assist in coordinating communications around NUCATS educational training programs for both internal and external users.
Collaborate with NU IT and other departments and stakeholders, including vendors; maintain current, up-to-date knowledge of education technologies and serve as the system admin for NUCATS selected online learning management systems, including Canvas and myHR Learn, and software including Panopto and BlueJeans.
Monitor and analyze functionality and effectiveness of educational technology/programs and provide recommendation for technology changes to meet emerging training needs.
Provide technical support to learners and instructors/facilitators.
Performs other duties as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree in instructional design, instructional technology, education, or related field or the equivalent combination of education and comparable skills;1 or more years of technology support experience;
Project management experience
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Working knowledge of Course Management System(s) (e.g. Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) and online education trends.
Functional understanding of Internet technology, including data transmission constraints (bandwidth) as they pertain to media size/design
Familiarity with web-based learning environments and learning management systems
Experience designing, developing and implementing programs of instruction, including web- and/or computer-based training
Extensive experience with PowerPoint layout, design, graphics, templates, and animations
Experience with image, audio, video editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Premiere and/or in incorporating audio into flash based programs with professionally and non-professionally recorded audio
Strong analysis and problem-solving skills; high level of attention to detail
Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with both customers and vendors in support of resolving issues with the learning management system
Customer service and solutions oriented attitude and approach to learning management system technology
Ability to work alone on projects and also participate successfully on a team
Ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms

2 or more years of project management experience;
Experience with online education;
Experience in higher education environment;
Experience with learning management systems and standards, such as AICC (Aviation Industry Computer-Based Training Committee) and SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model)
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Knowledge of Distance Education and adult learning marketplace online
Strong background in computer technology and/or use of learning management systems preferred.
