Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full-time experience in college career services, academic advising, residence life, student affairs, recruitment, communications and/or experience working in Higher Education (student work experience may be considered). Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Career coaching and/or academic advising experience with a college population. Experience in either student affairs and/or university administration. Extensive database use. Experience with at least one of the following: Peoplesoft, SOLAR, Blackboard, Navigate, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, and/or Qualtrics.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Experiential Learning & Internship Coordinator provides administrative support for experiential learning initiatives and programming for the campus. Therefore, having knowledge of the Stony Brook University curriculum and/or academic policies is preferred. In collaboration with campus partners, the Experiential Learning & Internship Coordinator supports the infusion of experiential education and career development elements into student experiences across campus. The selected candidate will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills as well as experience interacting with a culturally and ethnically diverse population. They will also have strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. The adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem-solving is essential to this role.
Liaison Work with Academic & Administrative Departments: Provide administrative support for experiential learning initiatives and programming for the campus. Support faculty and staff with the integration of experiential learning components into the curriculum and co-curriculum. Proactively collaborate with faculty and staff to identify employers offering experiential opportunities, with an emphasis on opportunities for international students. Support departmental strategy for employer outreach in generating new internships, project-based learning. Assist in the preparation of grant applications to support experiential learning. Process academic internship registration. Work with instructional designers to develop experiential education modules and workshops for faculty and staff. Assist in the development of metrics to measure experiential learning outcomes/impact. Provide support to the Experiential Education Advisory Committee. Create recognition opportunities for faculty and students engaged in experiential education.
Direct Client Service / Career Coaching: Provide individual and group career coaching and advisement for undergraduate and graduate students. Topics for advising include self-assessment, career research, personal branding, resume, online presence, internship search strategies, networking, interview preparation, salary negotiation, acculturating into the US workplace. Work with students to design experiences that will help them develop career readiness competencies and synthesize experiences with their coursework. Utilize multiple methods of service delivery, including face-to-face and virtual. Assist with creating training materials, facilitator guides, participant guides, experiential learning activities, and role-play scenarios. Empower students to integrate their classroom education with experiential opportunities. Serve as a resource for students seeking advice about career pathways and professional development across career communities and industry sectors.
Coordination of Internship Program: Coordinate all the details of student participation in the internship and related experiential programs. Ensure timely collection of placement data and learning outcomes and enrollments in courses and attendance at Orientation, review of student progress, and end of term assessments. Assist in marketing the program. Provide logistical support for employer-student events, including job & internship fairs, networking meet-ups, virtual and others. Staff events that occur in the evenings and on weekends.
Information and Data Management: Prepare, enhance and maintain digital resources and website for students, faculty, and employers. Assist with the promotion and highlighting of student experiences. Review, approve, and promote experiential opportunities posted in our recruitment system. Collect data to track impact of students' experiences and assess achievement of learning outcomes and career readiness competencies. Create reports and presentations using Excel, Qualtrics, PowerPoint & other tools.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
This is a full time appointment. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
Evening and weekend work may be required at times.
