Strategic Communications and Public Relations (50%) • Provide strategic advice and recommendations to Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students as well as OSA leadership team regarding communications initiatives, strategies, and issues resolution. • Develop and implement OSA-wide communications strategies and plans congruent with OSA’s strategic plan and in support of the University’s systemwide strategic plan. • Engage with other University departments and the media on sensitive, controversial, or high impact topics. • Initiate and manage programs and projects that span a wide range of communications activities, including public and media relations, branding and marketing, internal communications, issues management, speech writing, and strategic communications. • Work closely with University Relations to ensure two-way communications regarding important issues related to OSA. • Function as the primary media relations expert/spokesperson in the Office for Student Affairs.
OSA Leadership Responsibilities (20%) • Serve on OSA leadership team and engage in all appropriate leadership responsibilities including but not limited to: strategic planning, committee work, event and public appearances, etc.
Supervisor Responsibilities (20%) • Supervise and advise Marketing and Communications Associate on all aspects of job responsibilities with a focus on project/account management, branding, digital and web content. • Supervise and advise eCommunications Specialist on all aspects of job responsibilities with a focus on website, social media, marketing, and mass email best practices.
Other (10%) • Lead and convene OSA’s Communications and Public Relations subcommittee, developing relationships with communicators across OSA. • Evaluate emerging opportunities for communicating about the work of the Office for Student Affairs and its essential contribution to student recruitment, retention, graduation, and success. • Develop strong working relationships with staff across OSA to provide effective, ongoing communications and media advice, training, and support.

Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English or relevant field with additional two years of professional communications experience. • 6 years or more of experience in communications, public relations, or electronic communications technologies. • Experience developing communication strategies for a complex organization. • Strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple projects from inception to completion, adhering to deadlines, within budget and with high quality. • Demonstrated understanding of project management skills including multitasking, prioritization, and the ability to maintain project momentum over periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications • Advanced degree in strategic communications or relevant field. • Previous track record of building productive relationships. • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to work effectively with groups and organizations across the University. • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. • Ability to build consensus with diverse groups of people. • Experience working with media relations professionals. • Excellent writing and editing skills.
