Senior Library Associate III, Cataloger & Database Specialist

This position's role is to describe and organize diverse library resources in both digital and physical formats to enable access and discovery of these resources in a timely manner. To fulfill this role, this position creates and updates catalog records by performing original and copy cataloging in multiple formats with specialization in cataloging continuing resources and government documents and/or batch processing of catalog records from library vendors utilizing library services applications. To create catalog metadata records, this position also applies local and national cataloging metadata standards and best practices with library data encoding formats.
This position also manages and collaborates with others on database and collection maintenance projects, troubleshoots and performs database maintenance. This position also creates and/or updates name and other authority data in the Library of Congress Authority File. This position works on special projects and other duties as assigned. This position also keeps up-to-date with the development in cataloging and authority metadata in general and for their specialization in continuing resources and government documents to apply the changes and to update relevant documents (procedures, guidelines and workflows).
Responsibilities: Cataloging metadata creation: *Create catalog metadata records by original and copy cataloging, and/or batchload of catalog records for all formats of library materials based on local and national cataloging metadata standards and best practices with specialization in continuing resources and government documents. *Process, contribute and update catalog records and holdings information in library services platforms such as OCLC WorldCat and WorldShare, Ex Libris Alma, or the equivalents. *Create and update name and other authority data in the Library of Congress Name Authority File as a member of the Tennessee NACO Funnel. *Work on special projects, as assigned.
Database Maintenance: *In consultation with stakeholders in the Libraries under the supervision of Head of Cataloging, develop the procedures, perform and manage database maintenance in local and national library services platforms (e.g., Ex Libris Alma, OCLC WorldCat database and WorldShare Management System) for collection maintenance projects such as catalog data clean-up projects, collection relocation, inventory and weeding projects *Troubleshoot and perform updates and database maintenance for cataloging metadata and holdings information for all formats on the regular basis *Perform batch processing and local global editing of bibliographic records from library vendors for government publications, and other collections as needed. *Perform updates and maintenance of authority data in the library services platforms (e.g. OCLC Authorities and Ex Libris Alma), as needed. *Provide input and assist in collection data analysis for library collections assessment and other projects. *Work closely with the Systems staff on issues impacting cataloging and holdings data, cataloging metadata maintenance and discoverability.
Other duties: *Serve on committees as needed. *Attend training sessions, workshops and meetings. *Keeps up-to-date with the development in cataloging metadata in general and especially for continuing resources and government documents in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) to apply the changes and to update relevant documents (procedures, guidelines and workflows).
