POSITION TITLE: Assistant Middle School Division Coordinator/Faculty Member (10 month Contract, August 15, 2020 -June 15, 2020)
REPORTS TO: Associate Head of School
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Responsible for working with the senior administration to provide leadership and support to the Middle School Division, ensuring the smooth day to day operation of the daily activities and procedures of the middle school division.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS: -Preferred Masters degree in Educational Leadership and/or State of California Teaching Certificate in secondary education for subject area | or Bachelor’s in subject area or education -5-7 years prior teaching and advisory experience at the middle school level, Department Chair or Curriculum Coordinator experience preferred -Flexibility in working across grade levels 4th-8th -Conversant in 21st century education practices -Proficiency in Blackbaud and Google Suite,Google Apps for Education and experience teaching with commonly available educational software -Experience with a variety of technology in the classroom such as computers (Mac), digital projectors, document cameras, Interactive Whiteboards, and iPads -Excellent verbal and written communications skills -Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills -Strong public speaking skills -Ability to interact with students, parents, faculty and staff -Flexibility in working with a variety of faculty across the divisions on faculty committees -Strong ability to work collegially with the Division faculty and support team -Has a thorough and demonstrated knowledge of his or her teaching assignment with strong background in curriculum and instruction, classroom management, and assessment design (see additional job description for Middle School Subject Area Teacher)
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: -Reports to Associate Head of School and works in partnership with the Assistant Lower School Division Coordinator and Middle School faculty & staff to create and implement middle school duties schedule, annual calendar, and addresses day to day logistics concerns such as duties, rainy day schedule, teacher coverage, facilities usage, etc. -Works with Associate Head of School and MS Faculty to create and implement trimester electives curriculum and to assign students to their electives each trimester. -Works with Associate Head of School and MS Faculty to coordinate middle school special activities including but not limited to MS dances, Health and Human Development program, standardized testing coordination and scheduling, Halloween and Holiday Brunch, etc. -Supports Director of Counseling and Student Wellness and School Counselor to coordinate advisory schedule and activities. -Works with Director of Athletics and Auxiliary programs to coordinate Middle School Overnight Trips, 6th-8th grade day trips, after school supervision/clubs and other special enrichment programs. Writes and shares Weekly Agenda with Assistant Lower School Division Coordinator on Fridays in collaboration with Associate Head of School. Plans, coordinates, and supports school wide theme days, school spirit activities and birthday celebrations to foster a positive all-school climate. -Works with Associate Head of School, and other members of the administration (as needed) to plan and implement meeting agendas for middle school level meetings and all school faculty meetings. -Organizes, coordinates, and co-leads all-school and MS Monday Morning Circle. Collaborates with LS Assistant Lower School Division Coordinator on all school Morning Circle presentations. -Coordinates Friday Assembly schedule with the Assistant Lower School Division Coordinator. Plans buddy and other activities when assemblies are not scheduled. Communicates with all faculty and staff as needed. -Coordinates with MS & LS office managers to ensure substitute teacher coverage for teachers who are on sick or personal leave.
GENERAL DUTIES -Serves as member of the Middle School faculty and able to serve as MS advisor (when needed based on enrollment and class loads of all faculty) -Meets regularly with the Associate Head of School and Middle School Office Manager -In collaboration with the Associate Head of School and Assistant Lower School Division Coordinator, assists with communication for all school and MS events -Provides a compassionate and thoughtful environment in which the community can learn and be a part of adhering to and living the mission -Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Head of School
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT -Works in school environment dealing with a wide variety of opportunities, challenges and mission directives -Occasionally bend, stoop, and squat -May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. -Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled environment -Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold -Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Head of School in support of the school, its leadership and mission
