The University of Maine at Fort Kent is seeking to fill the position of Head of Technical Services Librarian. The desired start date is February 15, 2020, and the work location is on the Fort Kent campus of the University of Maine.
The primary responsibilities of this position are to manage the processing and procedures of the Acadian Archives acadiennes and Blake Library collections; to perform original and copy cataloging of traditional, archival and electronic materials; and to supervise Blake Library technical services (cataloging, acquisitions, and serials).
The Head of Technical Services will work closely with Faculty, Academic Affairs, Information Technology, other campus departments, the St. John Valley community and Maine InfoNet.
Salary will be based on the qualifications and experience plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS/MLS/MSIS)
3 to 5 years professional library or archives experience
Strong working knowledge of RDA and MARC cataloging rules and conventions and non-MARC metadata schemas, formats, standards and protocols.
Broad knowledge of issues, trends, workflows, and best practices in cataloging and metadata.
Experience in cataloging special collections, archival materials, and digital collections.
Ability to develop and maintain finding aids using contemporary tools in accordance with national standards.
Knowledge of archival and preservation concepts, methodology, and techniques.
Experience with bibliographic utilities and integrated library systems, authority control, and bibliographic record maintenance.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills particularly pertaining to cataloging, authority control and archival methods
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills
Experience working in technical services in an academic library setting.
Ability to formulate and articulate policies, procedures, expectations and practices
Strong time management, supervisory, organizational and technical skills
Ability to speak and read French
Experience with III’s Sierra and ArchiveSpace.
Experience and/or understanding of acquisitions and serials management
