Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a national law firm with 20 offices in the United States, has an excellent opportunity for a research analyst to join our Chicago, Milwaukee or Minneapolis office. The ideal candidate will provide on-demand research on legal and business topics, using some print but primarily electronic resources. This is a full-time position for a candidate who can meet the duties and responsibilities, possesses the skills and competencies, and has achieved the qualifications and experience listed below:
Essential Job Functions:
Provides high-level legal, regulatory, legislative and general business research and reference services to attorneys and administrative staff. The business research will be in support of specified business development and marketing needs. This may include various forms of company, trend, competitor and/or people research and information.
Performs searches on several standard databases (including Lexis, Westlaw, Pacer, CourtLink, Hoovers and others).
Works collaboratively as well as alone to ensure top quality research results.
Maintains knowledge of internal knowledge resources and use these effectively to answer research requests.
Contributes to the department’s internal communications such as awareness newsletters.
Participates in Knowledge Management and Research Services team initiatives focused on client service, strategic planning, training, and digital resource initiatives.
Other related responsibilities as needed.
Bachelor’s Degree in business, legal studies or a related field. Masters in Library Sciences preferred or relevant experience in legal research or business development research (preferably in both), within a law firm or similar professional services organization.
Knowledge and experience of using various research related databases, with an aptitude and attitude to continuously learn more.
Understanding of the legal profession, including a basic knowledge of litigation and transactional practices.
Possesses the initiative to take independent ownership of projects and complete them in timely and cost efficient ways; the ability to work beyond regular hours as needed as well as in a virtual capacity.
Polished communication, presentation and interpersonal skills for working with associates and staff.
Strong research, writing and editing skills.
Computer skills and working knowledge of software used for presentations, a power-user of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
