Seeking a motivated and innovative membership professional to join our energetic team in Alexandria VA. We are looking for a membership manager who can increase member engagement with our products and services that will lead to higher retention, create comprehensive marketing campaigns to recruit new members and successfully onboard new members.
Proven experience writing compelling copy for a variety of mediums, including newsletters, web content, promotional emails, and social media posts. Bachelor's degree in Marketing or Communications, with 5 years of experience, preferably within a professional association.
Candidates must be proficient with association management systems (AMS), content management systems (CMS) and email marketing platforms.
Develops, executes and evaluates an integrated strategic recruitment and retention plan to grow membership
Drafts copy for marketing collateral and promotional emails; provide ideas for messaging and concepts; and initiates and/or implements campaigns
Develops membership promotional materials. Writes and updates copy.
Researches, identifies, and solicits new markets for membership
Develops and implements strategies to increase awareness of the membership value proposition
Contacts suspended members via email and phone for renewal
Contacts prospects via email and phone to promote membership
Reviews analytics to determine effectiveness of membership acquisition and retention campaigns
Handles data management, including the collection and organization of member information, prospective members, membership renewal invoicing and new member processing
Runs membership queries and reports - pulls and evaluates monthly membership reports and analyzes trends in data
Manages the membership renewal process, which includes producing and distributing renewal packages, scheduling mailings, ordering supplies, fulfillment house management
Keeps the membership pages on the website fresh and updated – look for ways to improve the user experience
Works with chapter officers to involve them in the membership marketing and retention process – includes hands-on marketing support for new and struggling chapters
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Communications
Five + years membership/marketing and customer service experience, preferably within an association
Demonstrated ability and proven success in developing and executing membership recruitment and retention campaigns
Strong working knowledge of membership databases and email marketing software
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Excellent member service skills and analytical skills
Strong time management, prioritization, and project management skills
Experience dealing with volunteers/clients at all levels of the organization, as well as inter-departmental relationships
Experience and ease with public speaking to a variety of customers
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Ability to travel as necessary
