Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Education Specialties at St. John's University is seeking applications for a tenure-track position for Reading/Literacy Professor. Primary responsibilities include coordinating the Literacy Program (both the fully online Ph.D. in Literacy and various master's degree programs), teaching doctoral courses in research, theory, and practice of literacy methodology, and supervising doctoral candidates using digital technologies. Experience in building online programs, teaching online (Blackboard), conducting research, mentoring doctoral candidates, and leading doctoral seminars is expected.
Non-instructional duties include student advisement, scholarship activity, university service, participation in Academic Service Learning projects, committee participation and on-going program evaluations and reviews, and mentoring literacy faculty members. Knowledge of statistics and statistical pedagogy is preferred as well as the ability to mentor dissertation projects across quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methodologies as well as across diverse theoretical frameworks.
The position requires an earned doctorate in reading and/or literacy-related field with background and experience in conducting research, statistics, and teaching reading/literacy in school settings. A record of publications, presentations at scholarly conferences and professional organizations in Literacy, grant writing, teaching online/hybrid courses, and mentoring doctoral candidates is preferred.
