Supervises staff Library Professionals and Library Assistants who are performing complex library duties and responsibilities. Provides direction to Library Assistants on policies and practices that often do not have clear guidelines. May also supervise students. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the unit. Work is performed independently within a framework of established guidelines. Exercises initiative, originality, and judgment in applying established library principles and practices to new and unusual problems.
As leader of the Interlibrary Loan Unit, has responsibility for policy decisions, organizational planning, budget and resource allocations, and personnel decisions. Sets short and long term objectives for the unit. Serves as the Library's primary representative to partner UC Interlibrary Loan units and the California Digital Library. Represents the Library in regional and national Resource Sharing organizations.
Interlibrary Loan advances and supports the University's research, teaching, and public service missions. Under the general direction of the Director of User Services & Resource Sharing, the incumbent provides management, oversight, and coordination of the Interlibrary Loan Unit, as well as leadership within the larger User Services & Resource Sharing Department. This position has broad responsibility for ensuring that Interlibrary Loan staff provides effective and positive public service. The incumbent is required to have extensive knowledge of Interlibrary Loan principles and procedures, and an expert level of functional expertise. This position represents the library locally, by working public service desk shifts, and UC-wide, by serving on groups within the UC Libraries Advisory structure. ILL team members adhere to and support the UCSC Principles of Community.
