THIS IS NOT AN H1- B OPPORTUNITY ResponsibilitiesThe Communications Specialist is one of several positions that strategically supports the SOM Dean's Office. This position reports directly to Director of Internal Communications in the Public Affairs & Marketing Department, with day-to-day assignments from the Dean's Office Chief of Staff, and working in coordination with the Dean's office manager, executive specialist and executive assistant. Together, these positions provide varying types of support to the Dean in their duties overseeing UC Davis School of Medicine. The Communications Specialist researches, writes, edits, proofs and formats a wide variety of strategically written communications - generally with a focus on executive-suite communication from the Dean to Faculty, students, donors and members of the public. Required Qualifications
Experience writing persuasive letters of support and recommendation as well as other executive correspondence requiring action.
Research skills to quickly and accurately gather information on a wide variety of topics and issues, using multiple on-line and other resources.
Executive level speech writing experience.
Demonstrated ability to generate innovative ideas, think strategically, originate action and establish priorities.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of UC Davis Health faculty, staff and trainees; clinical, research, education and outreach programs; organizational structure; and policies and procedures.
Skill and sound judgement to apply state and federal laws, university policies, and professional standards to executive communications that represent health leadership.
Strong computer skills to quickly and accurately prepare properly formatted documents, including a wide variety of text documents, PowerPoint presentations and business graphics.
Experience in leading and executing projects in communications, marketing, media relations, public affairs, branding, web strategy, or a combination of education and experience.
Analytical and critical thinking skills to assess situations and provide sound professional.
Written and verbal communication skills to communicate complex subjects to groups with various levels of knowledge and experience.
Strong experience in both project management and leading cross-functional teams.
Experience creating and managing marketing and communications efforts within a large organization.
Knowledge and experience with all aspects of social media communications including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements, and appropriate and effective application.
Experience collaborating with graphic designers, web designers and developers, writers, editors, photographers, consultants and videographers.
Experience with the principles, practices and techniques of video and photography production for visual storytelling, storyboarding and/or script writing.
Occasional need to work overtime and/or alternate shifts, weekends, variable hours
