In July 2018, Columbia University and IBM announced the Columbia-IBM Center for Blockchain and Data Transparency, a new cross-disciplinary center aimed at advancing innovation in blockchain and data transparency, as well as addressing key issues related to the policy, trust, sharing and consumption of digital data when using blockchain and other privacy-preserving technologies.
Blockchain technology represents the next generation of secured, transparent transactions, enabling permissioned parties to access data and/or transactions in real time. It opens up new ways to exchange value through the digital representation of assets. Blockchain and similar technologies enable organizations and individuals to share data in a privacy-preserving and highly secure manner and hold the promise to transform business on a global scale by reducing the need for trusted third-party verifications.
Columbia University's Data Science Institute and the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science are seeking a Variable Hours Officer to offer part-time assistance on a number of logistical needs for the Center. Responsibilities for this position include preparation for Campus, Regional Ongoing and Annual Events; Coordinate and schedule Steering Committee and Task Lead meetings; manage the Center's back office systems; and manage student employees, interns and volunteers.
Support the Director of Strategy & Operations in the execution of the decisions of the Steering Committee and assist with oversight of day-to-day operations, to include but not limited to:
Aid in the program management for the Center.
Provides coordination and support for Steering Committee & Task Lead meetings including ongoing record keeping and rosters for each;
Manage the Director of Strategy & Operations Calendar on a daily basis;
Complete ad hoc administrative and other projects related to the Columbia-IBM Center for Blockchain and Data Transparency.
Manage the Center's contact listservs to ensure effective and targeted outreach;
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required, although an advanced degree is preferred. Three to five years of related or equivalent experience is highly preferred. Two years experience in managing complex projects following the full life cycle methodology from inception to transition to production, post-implementation and evaluation is also highly preferred.
Strong organizational skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, including excellent attention to detail and proofreading; demonstrated ability to manage projects independently, to work collaboratively as a member of a team and to lead on project specific assignments; ability to work on multiple projects, under pressure on competing responsibilities with resilience, discretion, and diplomacy; ability to take initiative and manage progress on projects that involve multiple contributors is required; ability to work successfully in a dynamic, ambiguous environment; ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize workloads; work handling multiple tasks with deadlines in a fast paced environment; ability to develop new ideas and creative solutions; demonstrated ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
