The manager of Enterprise Web Services is an experienced leader of mission-critical, enterprise-scale services and of software development teams. The manager, in partnership with senior leadership, outlines and implements a strategy to provide solutions that are reliable, high-quality, and that incorporate the needs of stakeholders across the organization. The manager builds partnerships across the teams they lead and also with teams from other areas, such as client support, academic departments, security, communications, marketing, and identity management. They are committed to building relationships and have a vision for how to deliver the best developer and content-owner experience at IU. They take new projects from concept to completion, while also ensuring that ongoing operations are maintained. The manager leads three teams, which have varied missions. The Linux Web Hosting team is responsible for maintaining a robust, reliable shared web hosting environment for thousands of websites at IU, including critical campus and school websites. The Web Content Management Systems team provides enterprise-scale content-management services with a university-wide scope. Finally, the Software Development team is responsible for a variety of web and client applications in support of the mission of the university.
Additional responsibilities include:
Responsible for managing Enterprise Web Services teams with a high degree of independence and autonomy. Responsible for UITS-scale systems development, integration, implementation, and customization projects required by IU faculty, staff, and students on all IU campuses. Provides strong leadership in the design and development of robust and reliable UITS-scale web applications.
Participates in the development of long-range plans for systems development, acquisition, and integration. Responsible for the implementation of web applications; conducts research, evaluates alternatives, and proposes solutions. Serves as liaison with user departments, heads special assignment groups, and serves on various committees. Establishes priorities for tasks to ensure timely development and implementation of projects. Prepares a variety of reports and analyses supporting short- and long-range objectives. Reviews, evaluates, and approves proposed modifications and design specifications. Provides time and cost estimates and documentation for these proposals.
Provides technical leadership, expertise and supervision of activities needed for systems analysis, design, and programming as related to systems development, integration, implementation, and maintenance. Coordinates the activities of the technical team with other development teams. Plans, organizes, assigns, and supervises the work activities including initiating personnel actions on hiring, promotions, and terminations. Conducts performance evaluations. Plans and assists in the education, training, and technical development of team.
Represents the institution at local, state, and national professional organizations.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and five years of progressive computing experience in the area of systems development and/or system administration in a large complex computing environment.
Combinations of education and related experience may be considered.
Demonstrated leadership skills, including strong team building, problem solving, decision making, and motivation skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary for working collaboratively within a diverse University environment. Ability to demonstrate creativity, flexibility and high energy essential for providing leadership to technical staff during rapid-paced change. Skills in systems analysis, project management, systems development, software engineering, budget and staff management, and software.
Master's degree. Eight years or more of computing experience. Direct skill in managing large multi-campus system projects.
