This position manages all facets of the creation of the Society’s quarterly print magazine and its family of print and digital publications, including writing, editing, freelance editorial oversight, advertising oversight, and production. Additionally, this position assists with the execution of the Society’s overall integrated communication strategies. The manager reports to Assistant Director, Communications who is also Editor-in-Chief of Insight Magazine.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Serve as the Assistant Editor of Insight Magazine and its digital and web presences. Assist with editorial planning, facilitating key stakeholder and staff participation. Manage a pool of freelance writers and expert contributors. Assist with art direction and layout.
Perform in-depth editing, proofreading, and quality control of content to ensure consistent brand messaging.
Write front- and back-of-book sections of Insight, feature articles, and columns as needed.
Manage the development, design, and production of the Society’s family of specialized digital publications.
Plan and produce digital/web-only exclusive editorial as needed to support digital publication readership.
Manage ad trafficking to ensure in-house and outside client artwork is received on time, to spec, and is scheduled, displayed, and tracked as contracted.
Manage production and design of the annual Media Kit, ensuring inclusion of all Society advertising and sponsorship opportunities.
Collaborate with team to ensure promotional opportunities for Society services, products, and publications are leveraged.
Maintain a content calendar to ensure effective leveraging of messaging across all communications channels.
Maintain the Publications and Insight sections of the
Assist with Society’s social media presence and strategies.
Help with logistics for two volunteer events
WHO YOU ARE
Minimum education of a bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or Public Relations.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in writing, editing, and publication production coordination. Ideally for a business/finance or other relevant publication or resource.
Technical experience in Microsoft Office Suite, Quark Xpress, Adobe Creative Suite, Visual Studio or similar HTML and email development platforms, Website Content Management Systems, social media sites, Internet search engines and SEO.
Fundamental understanding of AP Style.
Ability to manage and develop a consistent base of freelance writers and expert contributors.
Strong writing, editing, and interviewing skills.
Excellent organization skills, including the ability to work on several projects simultaneously, setting priorities, and meeting multiple deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with and develop team members at all levels.
