PRIMARY FUNCTION: To assure that all staff performing instrument reprocessing operations at all CCHS sites are competent. To assure that all CCHS sites performing instrument reprocessing operations are compliant with all industry and regulatory processing standards.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains technical competence in instrument reprocessing, including pre -cleaning, cleaning, sterilization, high- and low-level disinfection..
Coordinates the development of education programs, policies, procedures and guidelines that describe reprocessing standards at CCHS.
Assumes responsibility and accountability for the coordination and evaluation of reusable instrument reprocessing at all CCHS sites that perform these tasks.
Oversees orientation process for new employees at all reprocessing sites including individual learning need assessment and preceptor mentorship.
Monitors, on a regular basis, staff execution of reprocessing, holding staff accountable for work quantity/quality and adherence to safety standards.
Conducts routine competency assessment of individual technician skill level.
Identifies individual staff and unit ongoing learning needs and coordinates individual learning plan with unit supervisor. Develops and maintains unit competency maintenance program.
Participates in regular auditing of all clinical sites to ensure that use of disposable equipment is maximized, and that any site using reusable equipment is included in the competency maintenance program.
Provides on-going feedback to reprocessing staff concerning performance and collaborates with department manager in completing annual performance reviews.
Develops strong working relationships with Infection Prevention, the Perioperative Services leadership team, Accreditation team and the leaders/staff of the ancillary departments. Provides ongoing communication with a focus on building trust and accountability. Collaborates with Ancillary Departments, Physician Practice Managers and Infection Prevention in the oversight and management of all reprocessing services done within CCHS.
Provides regular reports including but not limited to individual units' performance and compliance, trends in reprocessing issues throughout CCHS and improvement projects.
Demonstrates ability to provide necessary leadership to employees in departments performing reprocessing.
Collaborates with department leadership team to identify improvement needs and monitor quality indicators. Gathers information, selects the best strategy, implements and evaluates decisions to assure continuous improvement and contribution to the long-term best interest of CCHS.Serves as a content expert for Infection Prevention. Participates in Infection Prevention committees.
Demonstrates and promotes positive interpersonal skills.
Maintains awareness of standards and changes within health care and SPD industry.
Promotes high levels of staff engagement, performance, and retention.
Performs other duties as required.
Bachelor's Degree in healthcare, nursing or business management.
5 years Sterile Processing experience required.
SPD supervision or Staff education experience preferred.
Process Improvement or Lean Six Sigma experience preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
