Responsible for setting up, managing, maintaining, and performing complex technical tasks related to managing a poultry disease research laboratory while working with infectious agents (under BL2 conditions). Manage advanced research projects and perform complex research experiments to include experiments that attempt to propagate avian viruses in thrombocytes and other immunologic and virologic techniques involving avian viruses and thrombocytes. Replicate and/or develop laboratory techniques/assays and protocols from scientific literature. Perform independent research to include generating hypotheses, designing experiments, executing protocols, interpreting results, and drawing conclusions. Write scientific publications. Independently coordinate operational activities, strategic planning, financial oversight, and public relations.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in related science plus four years of technical/management experience in a research lab or bachelor’s degree in related science plus six years of technical/management experience in a research lab. Project management and/or supervisory experience. Knowledge of compliance and safety regulations. Demonstrated ability to teach/train others. Technical skills and working knowledge in relevant science. Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Good technical, analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to multi-task and work independently. Record keeping and computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet software programs. Able to learn software specific to scientific equipment.
